If you own a 2006-2009 with a coolant leak, Honda could replace your entire block (engine) for free, according to this article from Consumer Reports. “The free service applies to all Civics except the Hybrid and the Civic Si, and it effectively extends the original warranty to eight years, regardless of mileage.”
Leaking coolant can cause the engine to overheat and/or crack, so Honda has decided that vehicles with this issues should just get an entirely new engine.
“Honda wants to do right by the consumers who bought the Honda Civic because of its reputation for dependability and reliability,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda in Burlington. “Certainly normal engines shouldn’t be leaking coolant if they are less than 8 years old, so there’s an issue here that Honda wants to comprehensively take care of. Replacing the entire engine is no band aid fix, that’s for sure.”
If you have a 2006 to early 2009 Honda Civic, please contact Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda to talk to someone about getting your vehicle’s engine replaced.
