Toyota Recalls 1.9 Million Prius Vehicles

Toyota announced a huge recall that affects 1.9 million Toyota Prius hybrid vehicles. Toyota reported there is a software glitch that could cause the cars to stall.

According to this article, “The software could cause transistors to become damaged, causing warnings lights to go off, driving power to be reduced or the car to stop. The recalled vehicles were manufactured between March 2009 and February 2014.”

The vehicles affected by the recall are: 2010-2014 Toyota Prius hybrids, 2012 Toyota RAV4, 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma, and 2012-2013 Toyota Lexus RX vehicles.

Toyota Recalls 260,000 Vehicles Over Brake Issue

Toyota announced that it is recalling more than 261,000 vehicles with possible problems with the software of the braking system; this could result in a crash.

The recall affects the 2013 Toyota Tacoma, 2012 Toy0ta RAV4, and the 2012 and 2013 Lexus RX 350. According to this article, “According to Toyota, an electrical component within the actuator that adjusts the fluid pressure for each of the brakes of the affected vehicles may experience an increased resistance.

“This would result in the illumination of various warning lights in the dash, including those for the stability and traction control systems as well as the antilock brakes. If this were to occur, Toyota says that the systems could become inoperative, reducing the directional control assistance during braking, and thus increasing the risk of a crash.”

Toyota will notify owners if they are affected.

Honda Fit Hybrid Recall

Honda announced that it is recalling Honda Fit Hybrids produced July 2013 through February 2014 due to a potential software glitch.

The problem with the software issue could affect “the 7-speed dual clutch transmission or DCT, that could cause a delay in the ability to begin driving or the inability to move.”

Honda is encouraging people to check each DCT gear every day. Anyone with concerns or that has issues should contact their local Honda dealership. Any vehicles requiring a fix will be done so free of charge.

U.S. Investigates Toyota, No Official Recall

There has been no official recall, but U.S. safety regulators are investigating the Toyota Camry hybrid for issues with the brakes.

According to this article, “The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has 59 complaints about intermittent loss of power-brake assist. The agency says the problem happens without warning. It causes increased stopping distances and requires more pedal pressure to stop the car.”

Two crashes but no injuries have been reported.

The investigation cover Toyota Camry Hybrids from the 2007 and 2008 model years.

Honda Recalls Acura RLX Sedans

Honda announced it is recalling 7,751 Acura RLX Sedans to replace bolts on the rear suspension that may not have been tightened properly.

No crashes or injuries have been reported because of this issue. Owners will be notified by mail in the coming weeks and any repairs necessary will be made free of cost to car owners.

New Toyota Tacoma Recalled for Engine Flaw

Toyota announced that it is recalling the 2013-2014 Toyota Tacoma for a serious engine problem.

According to this article, “According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles may suffer from an engine flaw that could cause the Tacoma to stall in traffic — or worse.”

It’s a small number of vehicles affected by the recall built in couple months, less than 4,000 vehicles, but is a safety concern.

“The problem stems from improperly built valve springs in the Tacoma’s engine. Over time, wear and tear may cause the springs to break, and if that happens while a vehicle is being driven, the engine will stall, increasing the risk of an accident.”

Voluntary Recall of Honda Odyssey Minivans

Honda announced a voluntary recall of 300,000 Odyssey minivans from the 2007 and 2008 model years. A software malfunction may cause the brakes to apply involuntarily.

“If you have any questions about your Honda Odyssey, don’t hesitate to call us or contact Honda,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda  in Burlington.

No injuries have been reported.

Toyota’s Creepy Halloween Recall

Toyota announced it is recalling more than 800,000 vehicles because…are you ready for it?…of spiders.

Not it’s not a bad horror movie. It’s the latest recall of the Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, and Venza from the 2012 and 2013 model years. The recall involves airbags that could deploy unnecessarily.

According to this article, “The actual risk of airbag deployment comes from blockage of the air conditioner condenser drainage tubes. By building webs in those mini-waterspouts, spiders prevent condensation from being channeled away from delicate components. When that water hits delicate electronics like the airbag sensor, it can cause a short, which in turn can trigger the airbag warning light — or cause the driver’s side airbag to deploy.”

There have been three injuries and 35 warning lights have been reported.

Toyota Re-Recalls RAV4 After Bad Fix

This is a scary article about how Toyota is recalling RAV4 SUVs from the 2006-2011 model years…for a problem it thought it had fixed.

The recall effects more than 700,000 vehicles and involves the rear suspension arm.

Three crashes and several injuries have been reported since the initial recall, including a scary incident detailed in the article linked above where the driver lost complete control of the vehicle and crossed over the median and was “lucky to be alive.”

All owners should receive a letter in the mail.

Yikes.

Toyota Recalls New Camrys, Avalons, Corollas

Toyota announced that is recalling more than 10,000 Toyota Camry sedans, Avalon, and Corollas from the 2013 and 2014 model years.

The recall is due to faulty wiring that could cause windshield wipers to quit working.
