Honda Accord Hybrid Arriving in October!

So you might already know this, but we saw this brief article and got all excited about the arrival of the Honda Accord Hybrid in October to Honda dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda.

“We are extremely excited about the Honda Accord Hybrid,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “We have seen a rise in demand for hybrid vehicles. People really want Honda to offer more in this area because they know Honda and they trust Honda. They especially trust the Accord, so for the Accord to offered as a hybrid, we expect it to do really well.”

According to this article, “In the Hybrid application, Honda rates the Accord at 4.8 l/100 km in the city and 5.2 on the highway. This time around, however, the electric motor will be mated to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, unlike the previous Accord Hybrid, which saw a V6 instead.”

We are so excited.

Eeeeek! :)

2014 Honda Fit Hybrid Gets 85 MPG, Only in Japan

Of course this article caught our attention as we read that the 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid is expected to get 85.6 mpg (36.4 km/L). Wow. Then we were disappointed when we read that the 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid will probably only be made available in Japan.

Insert teenage whiny voice: “But whyeeeeee?!”

According to the article, “The Honda Fit is sold in the U.S. with a 1.5-liter four cylinder and gets 35 mpg with the automatic transmission. And it’s also sold as a 100 percent electric. But Honda is apparently not offering the hybrid model in the U.S. Honda may be working on a new compact sedan and crossover based on the Fit, for the U.S. and it could be sold in North-America early in 2014 with a similar hybrid system.”

That’s not really an answer. Personally, I’d want a model that gets 85.6 mpg. Right?!

“The all-new 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid will launch in Japan in early September. Hopefully the Japanese automaker will either bring the hybrid Fit to the U.S., or develop a new compact sedan and crossover based on the Sport Hybrid i-DCD hybrid system. Stay tuned.”

What do you think? Should Honda bring the 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid to the U.S. so we can all have the opportunity to drive a car that gets the “fuel sipping” mileage of 85.6 mpg?? Yes! :)

Honda Accord Hybrid Set Up to Take Down Competition

There has been a lot written about the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid set to land at dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, and Northwest Honda in October of this year.

We LOVE this brief set up of the battle among the hybrids. Basically, the 2014 Honda Accord getting almost 50 miles per gallon will be enough to overtake the competition and become the hybrid supreme.

Well, according to this article it is.

“We are extremely excited to get the 2014 Honda Accord here at Sims Honda,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “The market has been warming up to hybrid technology more and more as the technology gets better and people begin to get used to it. Combine better hybrid technology with the dependability and reliability of the Honda Accord brand and no doubt it will be a top seller everywhere. Who doesn’t want 50 miles to the gallon?!”

What do you think? Will getting 49 mpg (far more than other hybrid competitors) be enough to make the 2014 Honda Accord the top hybrid?

Honda Insight is “Engineering Marvel”

When you think hybrid vehicle, do you think top speed of 112 mph? What about 0-60 mph in 10.6 seconds?

Thanks to the Honda Insight, you can.

Generally, we don’t come across too many articles about the less publicized Honda Insight, Honda’s pioneering hybrid vehicle. So we were really impressed by this one that stated it was a hybrid with “a little NSX” in it.

Here’s what you may want to know: “…the Insight was, and remains, an engineering marvel. The issue with hybrids is always the weight of the batteries, right? Honda made the Insight’s body from aluminium so its kerb weight was just 850kg. Less weight means less power is required and greater efficiency results.”

And: “Powertrain specs mean we best talk performance. With a fully-charged battery, Car&Driver in the US timed an Insight from 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds, a second faster than Autocar’s time for the second-gen Insight tested in 2009. Taking times with a 50 per cent depleted battery and no IMA assist at all, the Insight’s average 0-60mph time was 12 seconds. No fireball, but that’s still quicker than today’s crop of city cars. Top speed, no doubt thanks to its 0.25Cd, is 112mph.”

Power? On a hybrid? Mind blown.

Of course, here at Honda we’ve always known what a fantastic hybrid the Honda Insight was and has become. If you want a hybrid with some personality and power, be sure to stop by Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda today to take one for a test drive!

Honda Accord Hybrid Will Get 49 MPG, Beat Toyota Camry Hybrid

Honda will debut the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid this fall and it will get 49 miles per gallon beating out the Toyota Camry Hyrbid, which reportedly gets 43 mpg. The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid will be available on dealership lots in October, including Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda!

According to this article, “Powered by Honda’s new hybrid powertrain, the two-motor SPORT HYBRID Intelligent Multi Mode Drive gives the driver three options: EV, Hybrid, and Engine. In EV mode, which only functions at low speeds and medium to high cruising speeds, the Accord utilizes its lithium-ion battery to run the car solely on electricity. Hybrid mode combines the 124-kilowatt electric motor with the 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine to generate quick acceleration while maintaining great fuel economy. Unlike the other modes, pure Engine mode sends the power straight to the front wheels. The Accord Hybrid is reported to achieve 49/45/47 MPG, setting a new, high standard for fuel economy in the midsize sedan class.”

With the Honda Accord reputation of dependability, reliability, and safety, consumers will have confidence in the Honda hybrid technology will take them further…for less money!

Honda Accord Hybrid Gets Better Gas Mileage Than Toyota Camry Hybrid

The much-anticipated 2013 Honda Accord Hybrid will go on sale in June in Japan and gets much better gas mileage than the Toyota Camry Hybrid. We have read reports that say the Honda Accord Hybrid will arrive in the U.S. late this year.

According to this article, the 2013 Honda Accord Hybrid “has a fuel-efficiency rating of 30 kilometers a liter under the country’s JC08 testing standards, Tokyo-based Honda said in a statement today. The Camry hybrid travels 23.4 kilometers a liter, according to Toyota, while Nissan Motor Co. says its Teana, which runs on gasoline, goes 11.4 kilometers. ”

Ok, so we don’t measure our gasoline in liters, but it doesn’t take a genius to realize that 30 miles/liter is a significant improvement on 23.4 miles/liter.

The latest model’s fuel efficiency is “extraordinary,” Koichi Sugimoto, a Tokyo-based auto analyst at BNP Paribas SA with a buy rating on Honda, said by phone. “The new hybrid technology will definitely be a big strength for Honda.”

The 2013 Honda Accord is one of the best-selling and most popular sedans in the United States and we cannot wait to see the Accord Hybrid in action. We are very interested to find out how it performs and drives. And you can bet that you’ll be able to stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda and Apple Valley Honda to take one for a test drive!

Honda CR-Z is “Fun, Affordable”

The New York Daily News wrote this glowing review of the of the 2013 Honda CR-Z. Starting at less than $20,000, the Hybrid CR-Z is the most affordable hybrid on the market.

It is also the most fun to drive.

“With 2013′s CR-Z, Honda has decided to loosen up and make what is arguably the  most fun hybrid most people can afford to actually buy or lease. Why does the  CR-Z hold forth the promise of being a hybrid that appeals to driving  enthusiasts? For starters, it is the only hybrid on sale in America sporting a  six speed manual transmission.”

That’s right, the 2013 Honda CR-Z is available with a six speed manual transmission that really gives it a lot of kick. The Honda CR-Z is also available with the more hybrid standard CVT (continuously variable transmission) for those who want even better gas mileage…by sacrificing that fun factor.

“For 2013, the electrical motor’s output is now up 5kW, to 15 kW, due to a higher  powered lithium-ion battery pack. The CR-Z posts a combined output of 130 BHP at  6000 rpm and 140 lb-ft. of torque with the manual transmission. The CVT equipped  models can only muster 127 lb-ft. by comparison.”

It is also one of the greenest hybrids on the market.

“When people want a hybrid, they often think of the Toyota Prius first,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “But just because it is one of the most well-known hybrids, doesn’t mean it’s the best.”

Did we mention that the Honda CR-Z gets 36/39 city/highway gas mileage?

“And with that great gas mileage you get performance!” McLaughlin said. “People think you have to sacrifice performance when you get a hybrid. With the 2013 Honda CR-Z, you do not.”

Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda in Bellingham, or Sims Honda in Burlington to take the new 2013 Honda CR-Z for a test drive to find out why it is the best, most affordable hybrid on the marketing.

Honda CR-Z Logs More than 100,000 Miles With No Problems

One business in London is using all Honda hybrid vehicles to power its fleet, including one Honda CR-Z that logged more than 100,000 in three years without skipping a beat!

Renewable Solutions UK designs and installs renewable energy systems all over the English countryside and only uses Honda hybrids like the CR-Z, Insight and Jazz to get business done. Altogether, the hybrid fleet has traveled half a million miles since 2010!

“Honda hybrids are a perfect fit for our business, with the efficiency of battery power and the many environmental and financial benefits this brings,” said Mike Lowes, Managing Director of Renewable Solutions UK.  “The fleet has worked very hard, every day, for both short and long journeys, but we’ve only ever had to pay for standard servicing and wear and tear costs, and no major breakdowns. They just keep going without skipping a beat!”

And in a testament to the great Honda service model, each hybrid in the fleet was bought from the same dealership because they trust the Honda brand and service!

“We have complete free rein in what we buy and where we buy it from, so the fact that we stick with Honda is testament to the trust we have in the brand. Honda hybrids are a reliable, no-compromise solution to our needs, and Greenacre have offered us great customer service and value for money.”

What is the most amount of miles you have ever put on a vehicle and in what period of time? If you own a hybrid, how many miles have you put on it?

Drive a Honda, Use the HOV Lane

A new report stated that Honda makes the most cars that can legally drive in California’s HOV lanes with only a driver in the vehicle.

Why? Because Honda makes the most gosh-darn environmentally friendly vehicles.

According to the California Air Resources Board, Honda makes four vehicles that meet its air quality standards to be eligible to use the carpool lane even when there’s only one occupant. The four vehicles are:

  • The Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid. The 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid sedan has a EPA driving range of 570 miles with an EPA rating of 115 MPGe, a standard used to measure the combined efficiency of an electric vehicle.
  • The Honda Civic Natural Gas. The 2012 Civic Natural Gas (CNG) has an EPA of 31 MPG.
  • The Honda Fit EV, which has an EPA rating of 118 MPGe with an EPA driving range of 82 miles.
  • The FCX Clarity, which has a EPA rating of 60 MPEe with an EPA driving range of 240 miles.

This article points out that using the HOV lane in California can shave 30 minutes off your commute where a ten mile drive can often take 30 to 40 minutes. That is DEFINITELY something we can relate to if you’ve ever hit Seattle traffic during rush hour or there is an accident in one of the two through lanes in downtown Seattle. The HOV lane is your friend in the Puget Sound area!

“The average annual five year fuel savings of the Honda Accord Plug-In, Honda Civic CNG and Honda Fit EV is about $7,783.  The fuel savings for the FCX Clarity haven’t been released.”

If you care about the environment, saving money and getting around faster (sounds pretty good right?), then be sure to stop by Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, or Northwest Honda dealerships today. Not all of these vehicles may be available in Washington state yet, but no doubt any of them would make a big difference in your life and your budget.

Three Hondas in Top Six of Greenest Cars

The Honda Fit, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Honda Insight were listed in the top six of Greencars.org’s ‘greenest’ cars list for 2012.

The Honda Fit placed second, the Honda Civic Hybrid placed fifth, and the Honda Insight placed sixth.

“This isn’t surprising at all,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “Honda prides itself on developing vehicles that get great gas mileage and are low-emissions. Whether its manufacturing, selling, or after the cars are sold, Honda wants to be low-impact on the environment.”

  • The Honda Fit (electric engine) was just one point short of the number one car. It gets 3.9/3.1 miles/highway per kilowatt hours (instead of mpgs).
  • The Honda Civic Hybrid gets 44 mpg (city and highway.
  • The Honda Insight gets 41/44 city/highway mpg

See the complete list HERE.

The Honda Fit is a hit with critics and consumers alike for its compact nature on the outside, but surprising amount of space on the inside. The Honda Civic was the best-selling car last year, in good part because of its reliable name and gas mileage. The Honda Insight is a relative unknown compared to the Fit and Civic, but obviously one that car-buyers should take a look at, especially if they want a car that’s environmentally friendly and gets fantastic gas mileage.
