The 2014 Honda Odyssey is the simply the best minivan available. That’s not just what we think, that’s according to Cars.com. The newest version of the Honda Odyssey is just the Odyssey pulling further away from the competition.
“The minivan market is pretty competitive,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “But the 2014 Honda Odyssey really proves there is no competition. It has led and will continue to lead the minivan pack because it is the best designed, most functional, most technological advanced, and most family friendly minivan available.”
The short video by Cars.com shows exactly why the 2014 Honda Odyssey is better than all the rest:
- 1 mpg improvement over the last model
- Touchscreen infotainment control
- Better materials
- HondaVac, which is the vacuum designed by ShopVac that reaches all the way to the front of the van.
- Would win a race with any other minivan, including the Toyota Sienna
- The seats expand outward to make more room for car seats
- There is a 15 inch widescreen tv…that can split into two media AND 5.1 surround sound!
Certainly the Honda Odyssey is not a cheap vehicle, but compared to other minivans is right in the ball park. But compared to many vehicles it is by far the best value for everything that comes with it.

Honda’s Odyssey Touring Elite minivan and its industry-first solution for built-in mobile clean up—HondaVAC™—received a coveted 2014 VIP (Very Innovative Products) Award from Good Housekeeping.
The influential and long-running publication selected just six 2014 VIP award winners from thousands of products based on their ingenuity and the results of laboratory testing conducted by the engineers and scientists at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute (GHRI), as well as consumer evaluation. Honda Odyssey with HondaVAC™ was the only automotive product to receive a VIP award this year.
Good Housekeeping praised HondaVAC™ for its breakthrough solution to solving an everyday problem. Its ability to pick up crumbs, dirt, and a variety of detritus is a perfect solution for families on the go. The magazine noted “an easy-to-use 12-foot hose reaches every corner, then stows neatly in the cargo area. Our staff members could let their kids snack in transit for the very first time, stress-free.”
Standard on the 2014 Odyssey Touring Elite®, HondaVAC™ was developed in conjunction with industry-leader Shop-Vac® and is composed of a powerful vacuum, replaceable filter and canister bag, with nozzle accessories neatly integrated into a dedicated space on the driver’s side of the rear cargo area. HondaVAC™ makes quick cleanups a snap no matter the location, offering powerful cleaning suction and an integrated hose and cleaning attachments that reach into every corner of the Odyssey’s cabin. The HondaVAC™ system’s powerful electric motor never needs an outlet or recharging, can operate continuously when the engine is running, and will continue to operate for up to eight minutes when the engine is turned off.
We love a good food fight, especially one that we don’t have to clean up.
However, Honda is making the point on Twitter that the new Odyssey COULD clean up a food fight with its HondaVac.
Honda tweeted out pictures of the HondaVac cleaning up after popular (and messy) snacks like Oreos, Cheetos, Taco Bell, and more with clever sayings. And food companies didn’t take it lying down. Read the complete article HERE to get a chuckle (or at least a smile).
No doubt there aren’t many foods that HondaVac in the Honda Odyssey can’t take care…and most definitely it will be challenged because we all know kids can make all sorts of messes in the back of vehicles. But we think Honda came out triumphant on Twitters, just like it will over all those crumbs!
