2014 Honda Odyssey Vacuum Really “Sucks”

It’s no secret. We adore the built-in vacuum in the 2014 Honda Odyssey.  We love the idea. We love the commercials. It’s just fabulous.

But does it really work.

According to Consumer Reports, it does.

We’re sure many people would expect a vacuum built into the vehicle itself not to work as well as a “real” vacuum, which is something Consumer Reports wanted to test.

What they found was that the vacuum in the 2014 Honda Odyssey “really cleans up.” Here’s what they said: “The bottom line. Honda’s built-in vacuum is a worthy addition to an impressive van.”

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda today to find out why the 2014 Honda Odyssey is the best minivan on the market and test the Odyssey-worthy vacuum.

All Electric Honda Fit EV

The 2014 Honda Fit EV is an electric vehicle that just about anyone can love. It gets 188 MPGe and can go 82 miles on a full charge; that’s more than enough to get you around town or even a quick jaunt down the highway. That’s a big deal considering the national average is 16 miles per trip.

Sheesh. That will barely get to you Costco and back. But we digress.

According to this press release, “A highlight of the 2014 Honda Fit EV is the short charging time. From the low-charge indicator light point, the Honda Fit EV is capable of charging in three hours or less when using a 240-volt circuit. That’s a full hour faster than Ford’s 2014 Focus Electric using the same voltage. As charging time is typically one of the biggest concerns for consumers looking to buy electric, the Honda Fit EV is likely to come out on top.”

And you don’t need to worry about what happens if you find you need a charge while you’re out and about, there are currently more than 6,100 charging stations around the country.

“Driving an all-electric vehicle is not what it used to be,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager. “If you’ve ever been intrigued by an EV, but not felt entirely comfortable with it, the Honda Fit EV may be the perfect car for you. Honda and the Honda Fit are incredibly reliable, so you can have that same confidence in the EV technology.”

Honda Plants Trees in Canada

As a global company, Honda has consistently shown it cares about environments around the world. In a recent announcement, Honda Canada announced it is going to plant 18,000 trees in the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014.

Why 18,000? Because that represents one tree for every Honda customer who bought a Honda ATV or lawn care product.

“At Honda, our goal is to be a company that Canadians want to exist and we make every effort to ensure the preservation of the environment in all of our corporate activities. This campaign is a national initiative with local benefits and will contribute to the Canadian landscape long into the future,” explains Jeff Stralak, Senior Manager, Motorcycle & Power Equipment Division, Honda Canada Inc. “The Forest RecoveryCanada program is a perfect fit and the “One Honda. One Tree.” campaign has far exceeded our expectations. Honda, along with our customers, associates and families, has helped plant more than 94,000 trees in Canada over the past seven years. ”

“These new trees will contribute to the health and well-being of Canadians, from Victoria to St. John’s,” explains Rob Keen, CEO, Trees Ontario. “Honda Canada has become a strong supporter of the Forest Recovery Canada program and we applaud their customers’ efforts who, through their purchases, have contributed to increasing forest cover across the Canadian landscape.”

2014 Honda Odyssey’s Spokescrumbs Get Sucked by Minivan’s Vacuum

There are many, many features in the 2014 Honda Odyssey to love. But probably one of my favorite (besides the space and safety features) is the built in vacuum.

Who’s not so fond of it? The ‘spokescrumbs’ in the new commercials for the 2014 Honda Odyssey. You can see three different spots featuring the voices of Neil Patrick Harris and Rainn Wilson as the ‘lovable’ goodies that left behind by children.

As a mom who has plenty of ‘lovable’ spokescrumbs in the backseat of her 2009 Honda Accord, I am beyond excited about the built-in vacuum. And the new commercials.

Check them out and let us know what you think!

2014 Honda Odyssey is First Minivan to Pass IIHS Advanced Safety Test

Honda volunteered the 2014 Honda Odyssey for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s latest safety test and became the first minivan to pass it. The 2014 Honda Odyssey earned the Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the IIHS, the first minivan to do so.

Other automakers have opted not to have their minivans tested because the IIHS small overlap test is not required yet.

“Our goal at Honda is to continuously advance the safety performance of every Honda vehicle to fulfill the trust our customers place in Honda,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics for American Honda Motor Co. Inc.

“We didn’t have to do this,” he said. “Some of our competitors have made the choice not to target this top safety rating even when introducing new models,” he said. “We are targeting and achieving this high standard even as part of mid-cycle refreshes on key, high-volume products. We are very confident that our model count will grow and grow even further in the coming months with testing of the all-new Acura RLX and the MDX.”

Here at Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda dealerships we are proud to sell some of the safest vehicles on the road, including the 2014 Honda Odyssey, the first minivan to earn the Top Safety Pick Plus rating. We know that you want your family to be safe, so we are proud to be a part of company that doesn’t wait until it’s required to meet safety standards; it initiates change and becomes the first in the industry.

Business Insider: Toyota Corolla Cheaper and Not as Good As Honda Civic

The Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic have been forever-competitors. According to Business Insider, though, there is no competition with these new models: Honda Civic wins…unless your only consideration is price (the Toyota Corolla is $1,400 cheaper).

Consumer Reports called the Toyota Corolla “bland” and the Motor Trend wasn’t nearly as kinda saying, “The car remains more of an improvement for those who will only drive a Toyota than a real Civic- or Forte-challenger, even with those neat LED headlights and a well-tuned CVT.”

Comparatively, “In June, KBB named the 2013 Honda Civic the sixth best sedan under $25,000. The Corolla did not make the top ten.”

See, it’s not just us that thinks the Honda Civic is better than the “cheap” Toyota Corolla. Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda todayto take the new Honda Civic for a test drive!

2014 Honda Accord Coupe “Interactive Photographer” Commercial

This commercial for the 2014 Honda Accord Coupe is one of the best car commercials we’ve seen in a long time. Sure, the background song is French, but it was a nice change up over the deep man-voice listing all the features of the car.

It is a subtle commercial that cleverly slips in on the incredible features (most of which come standard on all trims) of the 2014 Honda Accord Coupe. Whether it was the back-up camera or lane drift warning system, this commercial highlights the real-world applications of the technology and design of the 2014 Honda Accord Coupe.

There is one beef we have to pick with the commercial, though: at one point the 2014 Honda Accord Coupe gets passed by some kind of delivery truck. With the power and speed that comes with the 2014 Honda Accord Coupe that simply would not happen in real life.

Seriously.

Check out the 2014 Honda Accord Coupe driving onto dealership lots like Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda later this year!

105 Year Old California Driver Gifted a New Honda

The oldest driver in California, Edythe Kirchmaier, was given a new  2013 Honda Civic after her 1997 minivan began having mechanical problems. As an active philanthropist, passionate about her cause, Direct Relief, she needed a way to safely get to and from her charitable work.

Well, an anonymous Facebooker gave her more than a digital candle on her digital birthday cake. They gave her a car!

Maybe your first reaction was like mine, “Uh, I don’t think a 105 year old should be driving.” But, in her 86 year driving history, she has never had a traffic violation or accident. And the coolest part is she learned to drive on a Model T.

Ok, give the lady a new 2013 Honda Civic. Everyone deserves the safety and reliability of the new Honda Civic, especially someone who’s been driving that long without incident.

Happy Birthday!

Honda Insight is Different From Other Hybrids

When people think “hybrid” they often think of Honda’s competitor, the Toyota Prius.

Sure, people may think “Prius” when they think of hybrids, but they also think of a car with little or no gusto and one that certainly isn’t fun to drive. The Honda Insight not only gets fuel efficiency in the low-40s for both highway and city, it’s is also fun to drive. We think more people will start thinking of the Honda Insight because…well, it’s just more fun to drive.

With a “nimble” suspension and starting price less than $20k, you owe it to yourself to check out the Honda Insight.

“Generally, people don’t come in looking for the Insight,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “But when they start telling us they need a car with fantastic gas mileage, kind of sporty, and affordable, we point them towards the Honda Insight, and they are almost always pleasantly surprised to find out it is a hybrid…and it is fun to drive!”

For you chance to see how fun the Honda Insight really is, stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda in Bellingham, or Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee to take one for a test drive!

“Start Something Special” With Honda

Honda will have a new tag line with “Start Something Special” that will appear in all branding and advertisements later this fall.

At first, I thought it was kind of lame. Then…

“The idea is that it’s not a car, it’s a relationship,” Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of automotive operations, said in an interview. He said Honda owners give names to their cars more than owners of any other brand.

And then I thought about “Start Something Special” in terms of a relationship and I realized…I really like it!

When you are beginning a relationship, not just any relationship, but a special relationship whether it’s with a significant other or future bff (best friend for life), there is a certain indescribable feeling. Butterflies. Excitement. Joy. Fun.

Hondas are the cars your kids take to their drive tests. Hondas are the first car you buy out of college when you get your first real job. Hondas bring our first children home from the hospital. And more.

And, so, it really is a relationship. So, start something special with Honda today. Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealership today!
