My family had a Honda Civic wagon that last 5 kids and husband before it finally bit the dust.
A picture really can say a thousand words and we REALLY loved all the words said by the pictures in the article written by a man who was lucky enough to tour the Honda Museum in Torrance, Calif. (Honda’s U.S. headquarters).
The pictures of the vehicles in the museum will make appreciate the history and development of Honda vehicles, but, more than that, bring a great measure of nostalgia as you no doubt owned one of these cars or had a friend who did.

While we try to keep things local (or at least national) on the BlogHonda blog, we also like to brag about the accolades given to Honda vehicles overseas. It reminds us that Honda is a globally recognized brand for its excellence, safety, and reliability.
Like this article that tells about how the Honda CR-V has been rated one of the safest vehicles in Europe by Europe’s vehicle safety organization, NCAP. It was just given a 5-star rating! (Five stars is good in anyone’s book, right?!)
The rating was based on the following items:
- occupant protection
- child protection
- pedestrian protection
- availability of driving aids
One thing that stuck out to me in reviewing these was “pedestrian protection.” Here in the United States, I don’t think we worry too much about way of protecting pedestrians that may get struck by a vehicle. I’d be interested to learn about that and how we can better protect pedestrians in the U.S.
“The new CR-V’s top safety rating reflects Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety. Honda’s commitment to safety is embodied by the term ‘Safety for Everyone; safety for drivers, but also safety for passengers, pedestrians and occupants of all vehicles. Honda’s car-to-car crash test facility at the Tochigi R&D plant analyses impacts between models of different sizes and weights and develops solutions to mitigate injuries for both passengers and pedestrians.”

Much has been written about why the 2012 Honda Civic was redesigned so quickly. Like this blogger, some say it was because it was “so bad.” However, bloggers like him seem to miss the point that it was still the best selling compact car in the U.S. last year. And usually consumers know the difference between bad and good cars.
That being said, expectations were set high for the 2012 Honda Civic and some critics were disappointed. However, the folks at MotorWeek were not as evidenced by this video calling the 2012 Honda Civic energy smart and stating it is “excellence evolved.”
This critic notes that while the actual size of the car was smaller, the interior of the 2012 Honda Civic actually grew, among other positive features, including incredible gas mileage that the Honda Civic is renowned for. While the 2013 Honda Civic is an incredible redesign, the 2012 Honda Civic is still available at many Honda dealerships and, because of that quick redesign, available at an even better value.

Inspired by a real Honda customer’s experience, Honda is starting a social campaign that will allow Honda customers to tell the story of their journeys with their Honda. It is appropriately called, #MyJourney.
“It’s a soft marketing approach because what we want to do is sell our brand, not a specific product,” said Simon Nicholson of Honda. “We want to explain what Honda is about. There’s as human pull, it does talk about our products and it’s the idea of chasing a dream – which is all in the Honda Philosophy.”
I think this is a fabulous campaign idea. I would much rather read about someone’s journey with their Honda Accord or the story of a family through the life their Honda Odyssey then the (usually) boring specs of an individual product.

Honda is voluntarily recalling some Honda Fit vehicles and asking owners to park them outside until they can be inspected because there is potential for the power switches to catch fire.
No structural fires or injuries have been reported. Seven switches have melted and two caused fires in the doors.
The recall affects Honda Fit and Jazz vehicles from the 2007 and 2008 model years; it affects about 135,000 vehicles in the U.S. The glitch may affect the driver’s side door power windows. According to this article, water can get into the windows and cause the damage.
“If own one of these Honda Fits, please make an appointment to bring it in so we can determine if there is any damage,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda. “Take it to your nearest Honda dealership and our certified technicians will see if there is any damage and fix it free of charge if there is.”

At first this article confused me. Yes, I figured out they meant ‘trunk’ where they used boot, but only because my mum is Canadian and I had to have that explained to me several times when visiting family.
But it still threw me off every time I read it, which was a lot because the Honda Civic Tourer has a huge boot…er…trunk!
This article has some great details about the new Honda Civic Tourer set to debut in Europe this September (no word about the U.S.), but mostly the pictures of it caught my attention. Drivers could do a lot of stuff with a Honda Civic with a trunk that big! Perfect for “dog owners and towing.”
A Honda Civic towing? Yes!
With as much as Americans love the Honda Civic, it would only make sense to have this Honda Civic Tourer available here, too…right?
There has been a lot written about the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid set to land at dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, and Northwest Honda in October of this year.
We LOVE this brief set up of the battle among the hybrids. Basically, the 2014 Honda Accord getting almost 50 miles per gallon will be enough to overtake the competition and become the hybrid supreme.
Well, according to this article it is.
“We are extremely excited to get the 2014 Honda Accord here at Sims Honda,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “The market has been warming up to hybrid technology more and more as the technology gets better and people begin to get used to it. Combine better hybrid technology with the dependability and reliability of the Honda Accord brand and no doubt it will be a top seller everywhere. Who doesn’t want 50 miles to the gallon?!”

Generally, we don’t come across too many articles about the less publicized Honda Insight, Honda’s pioneering hybrid vehicle. So we were really impressed by this one that stated it was a hybrid with “a little NSX” in it.
Here’s what you may want to know: “…the Insight was, and remains, an engineering marvel. The issue with hybrids is always the weight of the batteries, right? Honda made the Insight’s body from aluminium so its kerb weight was just 850kg. Less weight means less power is required and greater efficiency results.”
And: “Powertrain specs mean we best talk performance. With a fully-charged battery, Car&Driver in the US timed an Insight from 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds, a second faster than Autocar’s time for the second-gen Insight tested in 2009. Taking times with a 50 per cent depleted battery and no IMA assist at all, the Insight’s average 0-60mph time was 12 seconds. No fireball, but that’s still quicker than today’s crop of city cars. Top speed, no doubt thanks to its 0.25Cd, is 112mph.”
Power? On a hybrid? Mind blown.

Honda is making a logical step and marketing the new Acura MDX not just to all mankind, but specifically to womankind. Which sorta makes sense when you consider that the Acura MDX is driven by many moms who don’t want to be driving a minivan.
“Moms drive the MDX; it’s sort of a minivan that’s not a minivan,” said Michelle Krebs of Edmunds.com, which is based in Southfield, Michigan. “Why not appeal to the female audience? Not many automakers do that.”
As I prepared for many women to potentially be offended by this marketing effort (like they were for the pink car that blew out air from the vents infused with products that were supposed to make skin look younger, etc), I realized that this might actually work.
“Luxury is so focused on a very sort of stereotypical, 40-year-old wealthy male,” Gary Robinson, advertising manager for Honda’s Acura luxury line, said June 20 in Detroit at a briefing on the new MDX. “Going forward, certainly in our country, that is not going to be anybody’s majority anymore. So there’s this opportunity to talk to somebody different.”

Honda recently released its global Environmental Annual Report that summarizes the company’s environmental goals and where they are in terms of achieving those CO2 emissions reductions.

Here are some of the highlights:
- A 15.2% reduction in CO2 emissions from automobiles (the goal is 30% by 2020)
- A 27.4 reduction from motorcycles (goal of 30% by 2020)
- 14.7% reduction from power products (same goal as above)
- There has been a 50.1% reduction in use of ‘substances of concern’
Kudos to Honda for putting its environmental goals out for the world to see so they can be held accountable. By the looks of things it looks like Honda is on schedule to achieve it’s environmental goals and make a big difference in the world!
