There has been a lot written about the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid set to land at dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, and Northwest Honda in October of this year.
We LOVE this brief set up of the battle among the hybrids. Basically, the 2014 Honda Accord getting almost 50 miles per gallon will be enough to overtake the competition and become the hybrid supreme.
Well, according to this article it is.
“We are extremely excited to get the 2014 Honda Accord here at Sims Honda,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “The market has been warming up to hybrid technology more and more as the technology gets better and people begin to get used to it. Combine better hybrid technology with the dependability and reliability of the Honda Accord brand and no doubt it will be a top seller everywhere. Who doesn’t want 50 miles to the gallon?!”

Thanks to the Honda Insight, you can.
Generally, we don’t come across too many articles about the less publicized Honda Insight, Honda’s pioneering hybrid vehicle. So we were really impressed by this one that stated it was a hybrid with “a little NSX” in it.
Here’s what you may want to know: “…the Insight was, and remains, an engineering marvel. The issue with hybrids is always the weight of the batteries, right? Honda made the Insight’s body from aluminium so its kerb weight was just 850kg. Less weight means less power is required and greater efficiency results.”
And: “Powertrain specs mean we best talk performance. With a fully-charged battery, Car&Driver in the US timed an Insight from 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds, a second faster than Autocar’s time for the second-gen Insight tested in 2009. Taking times with a 50 per cent depleted battery and no IMA assist at all, the Insight’s average 0-60mph time was 12 seconds. No fireball, but that’s still quicker than today’s crop of city cars. Top speed, no doubt thanks to its 0.25Cd, is 112mph.”
Power? On a hybrid? Mind blown.

Honda is making a logical step and marketing the new Acura MDX not just to all mankind, but specifically to womankind. Which sorta makes sense when you consider that the Acura MDX is driven by many moms who don’t want to be driving a minivan.
“Moms drive the MDX; it’s sort of a minivan that’s not a minivan,” said Michelle Krebs of Edmunds.com, which is based in Southfield, Michigan. “Why not appeal to the female audience? Not many automakers do that.”
As I prepared for many women to potentially be offended by this marketing effort (like they were for the pink car that blew out air from the vents infused with products that were supposed to make skin look younger, etc), I realized that this might actually work.
“Luxury is so focused on a very sort of stereotypical, 40-year-old wealthy male,” Gary Robinson, advertising manager for Honda’s Acura luxury line, said June 20 in Detroit at a briefing on the new MDX. “Going forward, certainly in our country, that is not going to be anybody’s majority anymore. So there’s this opportunity to talk to somebody different.”

Honda recently released its global Environmental Annual Report that summarizes the company’s environmental goals and where they are in terms of achieving those CO2 emissions reductions.

- A 15.2% reduction in CO2 emissions from automobiles (the goal is 30% by 2020)
- A 27.4 reduction from motorcycles (goal of 30% by 2020)
- 14.7% reduction from power products (same goal as above)
- There has been a 50.1% reduction in use of ‘substances of concern’
Kudos to Honda for putting its environmental goals out for the world to see so they can be held accountable. By the looks of things it looks like Honda is on schedule to achieve it’s environmental goals and make a big difference in the world!
Honda will debut the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid this fall and it will get 49 miles per gallon beating out the Toyota Camry Hyrbid, which reportedly gets 43 mpg. The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid will be available on dealership lots in October, including Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda!
According to this article, “Powered by Honda’s new hybrid powertrain, the two-motor SPORT HYBRID Intelligent Multi Mode Drive gives the driver three options: EV, Hybrid, and Engine. In EV mode, which only functions at low speeds and medium to high cruising speeds, the Accord utilizes its lithium-ion battery to run the car solely on electricity. Hybrid mode combines the 124-kilowatt electric motor with the 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine to generate quick acceleration while maintaining great fuel economy. Unlike the other modes, pure Engine mode sends the power straight to the front wheels. The Accord Hybrid is reported to achieve 49/45/47 MPG, setting a new, high standard for fuel economy in the midsize sedan class.”
With the Honda Accord reputation of dependability, reliability, and safety, consumers will have confidence in the Honda hybrid technology will take them further…for less money!
The state-of-the-art Earth Dreams engine developed by Honda will soon have a new home: the ever-popular Honda Civic.
Really, this announcement makes perfect sense. The Honda Civic is one of the most efficient, gasoline friendly cars on the roads and the Earth Dreams engine, a direct-injection engine, further increases the fuel economy of any car.
This is a great announcement and people are always looking for cars with the best fuel economy, so I thought it was interesting that it sounded like Honda was having to defend its decision by saying, “”Gasoline prices are stabilizing in the mid-$3-a-gallon range, and Detroit is selling quite a few pickups,” Iwamura said. “Yet while the average person sees those numbers, their income hasn’t risen that much. It’s wrong to say Americans don’t care about fuel economy. They care.”
Uh, yeah. WE CARE!
It looks like the revolutionary Earth Dreams engine should be installed in the 2015 Honda Civic. We’ll look forward to that!
2007 Honda S2000
Honda is voluntarily recalling 18,000 Acura RSX compact cars from 2006 and Honda S2000 cars from the 2006 and 2007 model years due to possible issue with the brakes.
According to this article, “Honda says some power brake booster parts weren’t made to specifications. That could cause a decrease in braking power over time and could increase the risk of a crash. But the company says it doesn’t know of any accidents or injuries from the problem.”

You have never seen a tricked out minivan like this heavily-modified Honda Odyssey with 535 horsepower that is headed to the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb to take place on June 30 in Colorado.
According to this article, “The race-bound minivan is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that uses a large Garrett turbocharger to churn out 535 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque, a considerable bump over the regular-production Odyssey’s 248 ponies and 250 lb-ft. of twist. The mill is linked to a six-speed transmission and an Acura-sourced limited-slip differential, while Brembo brakes hidden behind 19-inch BBS alloy wheels make sure the van can stop as well as it goes.”
Whoa. Now that is a minivan that I could probably convince my husband to drive. Even if the built-in vacuum has been replaced with a roll cage and the 16 inch television with a five-point harness.
Actually, that’d be even more reason for him to want to drive it.
“[Pikes Peak] is something I’m really looking forward to,” said Pagenaud. “I’ve done a little bit of rallying in France, and I used to watch highlights of the Pikes Peak race on television as a kid. Our entry will be unique, to say the least! A Honda Odyssey with power similar to an IndyCar will raise some eyebrows for sure!
2013 Honda Ridgeline
Top tailgate security manufacturer, Pop & Lock, LLC, has created a lock for the Honda Ridgeline for the 2005 to most current model of the truck.
According to this article, “Designed to fit the current platform (2005 & Up), these add-on components will provide a secure locking option to the factory tailgate. Both the manual (PL6100) and power (PL8600) kits can be purchased separately or together (PL8661) as a combination smart lock.
“The advantage of having the smart lock combination is you have the convenience of using your OEM key fob to lock the tailgate but can override the power lock with a key should your battery fail”, says Jeff Pierquet, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for VSI, LLC, the parent company of Pop & Lock.”

We were intrigued by this short video that transforms your regular 2012 Honda Civic Si into a race car on the biggest stage. Because of the length of the video, I thought it would be a relatively easy process.
Well, it’s not exactly easy.
But it isvery interesting. And I’m not even a take-the-car-apart-and-put-it-back-together kind of gal.
