2015 Honda Fit Unveiled in Detroit

Honda revealed the 2015 Honda Fit at the Detroit Auto Show and it doesn’t disappoint. While there aren’t many surprises with the 2015 Honda Fit, “Honda Fit maintains the “less is more” philosophy of the current car while upping its fuel economy and technology quotient.

“Honda improved the gas mileage of the Honda and that’s a big deal for people,” said Tony Carter, general manager at Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “The Honda Fit already had good gas mileage, but the 2015 Honda Fit will get even better gas mileage. Combine that with it’s impressive cargo space.”

From the outside you wouldn’t expect the Honda Fit to have almost 53 cubic feet of cargo space…but it does. And we think that’s pretty impressive.

“The interior gets a complete makeover as well and is much more upscale than the current Fit’s sparsecockpit. Materials look and feel good for an entry-level hatchback, and the current Fit’s logical ergonomics don’t seem to have been compromised despite a heavy helping of new standard and optional equipment. Honda emphasizes this uptick in feature content for the 2015 Fit, with stuff like Bluetooth and a backup camera as standard, and more premium features such as pushbutton start, a sunroof, heated seats, leather, and Honda’s LaneWatch camera display as optional.”

Look for the 2015 Honda Fit in the future, but don’t forget the current Honda Fit is one of the best subcompact vehicles on the road, so stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, or Apple Valley Honda today!

Honda’s New Compact Crossover to Land in U.S. in 2014

The brand new Honda Vezel will arrive at dealership lots in the U.S., including Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda dealership, some time in the second half of 2014.

It won’t be called the Vezel and we are VERY excited about this new vehicle that will be add some fresh blood to the Honda line up. so what can we expect? “While small, Honda asserts that the new model will have “a coupe-like, high-quality personal space for the front seats and minivan-like elbowroom, comfort and functionality for the rear seats” — an interesting split personality.”

It’s based on the popular Honda Fit and will be 9 inches shorter than the Honda CR-V (only 7 inches longer than the Fit). But we all know size isn’t everything and Honda is the master at maximizing interior space and making it feel bigger than it is with creative and quality design.

“We think this new compact crossover will be a big hit,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda. “It will have a coupe-like feel so people who want a crossover but like that more compact feel will really fall in love with this new yet-to-be-name vehicle.”

Look for more about Honda’s new compact crossover (including it’s American name) in the coming months!

“A Man and His Car” Spot

Honda is quite adept at developing commercials and media campaigns that touch our hearts.

This 70 second online spot called “A Man and His Car” outlines why people love their Hondas: they take us to college, to our first jobs, to our weddings…all the way until they are no longer big enough because your family has grown.

Some people say Hondas are boring, “appliances on wheels,” but if dependability and reliability is boring then I think most of us will be bored for the rest of lives.

“Some other car manufacturers look at the Japanese makes and call them appliances, they think they’re vanilla. Whatever. The reality is the dependability and quality of the Hondas have made them very trustworthy. They are loyal companions to customers,” said Mike Accavitti, senior VP-automobile operation at American Honda in Torrance, Calif. “There’s a lot to love about dependability, the simplicity, the ease of use, the fun to drive element, the great fuel economy and the safety. Based on those attributes, consumers really love their cars. They talk to them. They name them. It’s truly a unique bond.”

Check out the commercial that is only available online and you will recognize that a man can have with his car.

SiriusXM Radio to be Available on Several Hondas

Honda announced that it is expanding the availability of SiriusXM radio on Many several Honda models.

According to this article, “For the first time, SiriusXM will be offered on the Fit, CR-Z, and Insight models. Additionally, Honda will expand availability of the radio service on the Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Pilot. Acura ILX buyers will get SiriusXM as standard equipment.”

“We think this is just another example of Honda giving drivers what they want,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “Offering SiriusXM radio in more vehicles simply gives people more options and a higher tech ride; that’s what most people want.”

Back the to the article, “American Honda first introduced the satellite radio service in 2003. The recent expansion is part of an agreement between Honda and Sirius XM Radio to extend their partnership through January 2020. Right now, customers who purchase a Honda or Acura vehicle with satellite radio receive a 3-month subscription to the radio company’s All Access Package, giving them access to everything from NFL games to NASCAR events to Oprah Radio.”

Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda dealership today to take any of these models for a test drive and find out how having SiriusXM radio can improve your drive.

Honda Recalls Honda Fits

Honda announced it is voluntarily recalling Honda Fit hatchbacks from the 2007-2008 model years to replace master power switches for the windows.

The recall affects about 143,000 Honda Fits in the United States.

According to this article, “ Honda said under severe conditions, rain water or other spilled liquids may enter through an open driver’s window and enter the master power window switch on the driver’s door. “Over time, exposure to water and other fluids can cause electrical resistance in the switch, which ultimately can cause the switch to overheat and melt, damaging the switch and potentially damaging an associated wire harness. Additionally, if a switch melts, it could produce smoke and, potentially cause a fire,” Honda said.

No injuries or damage has been reported because of this.

If you are concerned that may be damage to your Honda Fit, please bring it in to Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealership and we will take care of you.

All Electric Honda Fit EV

The 2014 Honda Fit EV is an electric vehicle that just about anyone can love. It gets 188 MPGe and can go 82 miles on a full charge; that’s more than enough to get you around town or even a quick jaunt down the highway. That’s a big deal considering the national average is 16 miles per trip.

Sheesh. That will barely get to you Costco and back. But we digress.

According to this press release, “A highlight of the 2014 Honda Fit EV is the short charging time. From the low-charge indicator light point, the Honda Fit EV is capable of charging in three hours or less when using a 240-volt circuit. That’s a full hour faster than Ford’s 2014 Focus Electric using the same voltage. As charging time is typically one of the biggest concerns for consumers looking to buy electric, the Honda Fit EV is likely to come out on top.”

And you don’t need to worry about what happens if you find you need a charge while you’re out and about, there are currently more than 6,100 charging stations around the country.

“Driving an all-electric vehicle is not what it used to be,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager. “If you’ve ever been intrigued by an EV, but not felt entirely comfortable with it, the Honda Fit EV may be the perfect car for you. Honda and the Honda Fit are incredibly reliable, so you can have that same confidence in the EV technology.”

2014 Honda Fit Hybrid Gets 85 MPG, Only in Japan

Of course this article caught our attention as we read that the 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid is expected to get 85.6 mpg (36.4 km/L). Wow. Then we were disappointed when we read that the 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid will probably only be made available in Japan.

Insert teenage whiny voice: “But whyeeeeee?!”

According to the article, “The Honda Fit is sold in the U.S. with a 1.5-liter four cylinder and gets 35 mpg with the automatic transmission. And it’s also sold as a 100 percent electric. But Honda is apparently not offering the hybrid model in the U.S. Honda may be working on a new compact sedan and crossover based on the Fit, for the U.S. and it could be sold in North-America early in 2014 with a similar hybrid system.”

That’s not really an answer. Personally, I’d want a model that gets 85.6 mpg. Right?!

“The all-new 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid will launch in Japan in early September. Hopefully the Japanese automaker will either bring the hybrid Fit to the U.S., or develop a new compact sedan and crossover based on the Sport Hybrid i-DCD hybrid system. Stay tuned.”

What do you think? Should Honda bring the 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid to the U.S. so we can all have the opportunity to drive a car that gets the “fuel sipping” mileage of 85.6 mpg?? Yes! :)

Honda Recalls Honda Fit Hatchbacks

Honda announced that it is voluntarily recalling Honda Fit Hatchbacks from the 2012 and 2013 model years. The recall affects about 48,000 vehicles in the United States.

This is expansion of the recall issued in April. The total number of vehicles affected since that announcement is 91,000.

According to this article, “The vehicles need a software update to the vehicle’s electronic stability control system, Honda said in a statement.”

“If you have any questions or concerns, please call us,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “Driver and passenger safety is the most important thing to us, so we want to make sure that all vehicles are functioning properly. Of course, any problem will be fixed for free to the customer.”

If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda dealerships.

Some Honda Fit Vehicles Being Recalled

Honda is voluntarily recalling some Honda Fit vehicles and asking owners to park them outside until they can be inspected because there is potential for the power switches to catch fire.

No structural fires or injuries have been reported. Seven switches have melted and two caused fires in the doors.

The recall affects Honda Fit and Jazz vehicles from the 2007 and 2008 model years; it affects about 135,000 vehicles in the U.S. The glitch may affect the driver’s side door power windows. According to this article, water can get into the windows and cause the damage.

“If own one of these Honda Fits, please make an appointment to bring it in so we can determine if there is any damage,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda. “Take it to your nearest Honda dealership and our certified technicians will see if there is any damage and fix it free of charge if there is.”

If you have any questions about this recall, please do not hesitate to contact Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, or Northwest Honda.

Honda Fit EV Price Drop, Unlimited Miles on Lease

The Honda Fit EV (electric vehicle) is now more affordable! You can now lease the Honda Fit EV for $259 per month, which dropped from $389!

AND, whereas leasers were limited to 12,000 miles, they can drive as many miles as their hearts desire.

Already lease a Honda Fit EV? Honda is taking the high road and lowering those leaser’s monthly payments by $130 to meet the new monthly payments! How refreshing is that?! This makes the Honda Fit EV even more appealing and, according to this article, “Considering the lease also includes collision insurance, which probably save owners around $50/month on average, as well as includes a 240 volt EV home charging station, the lease offer is now the most attractive in the industry in our opinion.”

Here are the specs of the Honda Fit EV:

  • 82 Miles Range (EPA Scale)
  • 118 MPGe Rating (highest of all EVs currently on the market)
  • 92 kilowatt (123 hp) coaxial electric motor generating 189 ft-lb of torque (of which we drag raced a Volt with and handily beat)
  • $389/month (36 month) lease
  • 20 kWh battery
  • 6.6 kW charging, which means near full charges in about 3 hours
  • and ECO mode setting that should never be selected by anyone as it retards the driving to sub-human levels
  • theoretical room for 5 passengers
  • good size boot with a 60/40 split

So what do you think? Is the price drop and lifted mileage restriction enough for you to venture out to buy a Honda Fit EV (if you live in one of the few areas it is sold)?
