Boldly Restyled and Significantly Enhanced 2015 Honda CR-V Gets New Powertrain, Advanced Features and New Premium Touring Trim

America’s bestselling SUV for the past decade1, the CR-V raises the bar for 2015 with a major update that increases powertrain performance, fuel efficiency, safety performance, value and fun

Launching at Honda dealerships nationwide on October 1, 2014, the new 2015 Honda CR-V receives the most significant mid-model cycle refresh in its history, with a new direct-injected Earth Dreams Technology™ i-VTEC® engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT), a new suite of Honda Sensing™ safety and driver assistive features, significantly enhanced exterior and interior styling, a long list of new standard and available features and a new premium Touring trim.

Starting with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $23,3202, the 2015 CR-V has increased EPA fuel economy ratings of 27/34/29 mpg3 (city/highway/combined) for front-wheel-drive models and 26/33/28 mpg3 for Real Time AWD models, both increasing +4/+3/+3 mpg over 2014 models.

New for the 2015 CR-V:

  • More efficient direct-injected engine with torque up 11 percent
  • New seamless and sporty CVT for enhanced performance and fuel efficiency
  • Bold new exterior design plus chassis, braking system and sound isolation improvements
  • New standard features include a center console armrest, sliding sunvisors and rear console ventilation ducts
  • New available features include a power tailgate, 10-way power and heated driver’s seat with memory, LED daytime running lights, and Display Audio
  • Available Honda Sensing™ suite of advanced safety and driver assistive features that includes Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)4, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)5, Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS)6, Lane Departure Warning (LDW)7 and Honda LaneWatch™8

The CR-V is notably enhanced with multiple functionality upgrades, including a new configurable center console, new rear console heat/air ventilation ducts, and an available 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio telematics interface. A redesigned high-quality and high-tech interior further increases the CR-V’s sophistication. Exterior design changes, including re-styled front and rear bodywork, mirrors and wheels, lend the CR-V a bolder, sportier appearance with unique Honda style.
For 2015, the CR-V includes a longer list of standard features on all trims. The CR-V EX, for example, adds 7-inch Display Audio, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, Honda LaneWatch™, Smart Entry/Push-Button Start and LED daytime running lights.

A new top-of-the-line Touring trim includes the first Honda application of two advanced driver-assistive technologies, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and the first CR-V adoption of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). These systems, plus Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Honda LaneWatch™ are part of the new Honda Sensing™ suite of safety and driver assistive technologies that, together with other high-end features, such as a power tailgate, bring a new level of sophistication to America’s top-selling SUV1.

These improvements, especially the significant feature upgrades and new line-topping Touring trim, provide customers with more value and choice than ever before. Add in its car-like interior comfort and smooth, quiet ride, and the enhanced and upgraded 2015 Honda CR-V once again sets a new benchmark for the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Telematics
The 2015 CR-V includes easy-to-read instrumentation and, for the first time on CR-V, Honda’s new 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio telematics interface. Display Audio, standard on EX and above trim levels, allows the user to tap, pinch, and swipe – just like on a smart phone or tablet – to control audio and other telematics features, including the available next-generation HondaLink™9 and the Honda Satellite-linked Navigation System™10. All CR-Vs retain the full-color intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) that offers a range of customizable features via fingertip controls on the steering wheel. The CR-V’s audio and telematics systems offer a high level of connectivity, including a standard Pandora®11 internet interface and SMS text messaging function, Bluetooth®12 HandsFreeLink® phone interface.

Powertrain
The 2015 CR-V’s new Earth Dreams Technology™ 2.4-liter direct-injected DOHC i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder engine produces 181 lb-ft of torque, an 11-percent increase over the previous engine’s 163 lb-ft13 while making the same 185 horsepower14. The new lighter-weight engine is mated to a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) with G-design Shift that provides smooth, seamless ratio changes and contributes to increased EPA fuel economy ratings of 27/34/29 mpg3(city/highway/combined) for front-wheel-drive models and 26/33/28 mpg3 for the Real Time AWD models.

Chassis
An updated suspension design, and features such as Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®)15 and Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering (EPS) all contribute to the 2015 CR-V’s quality driving experience, which is enhanced further on the EX and above trims with wider front and rear track dimensions due to wider wheels (+0.5 inches). The CR-V uses front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension systems that benefit from tuning changes. The rear multi-link system helps maximize rear seating and cargo space while providing stable and comfortable handling and ride quality. Newly revised shock absorber tuning helps deliver a refined driving feel.

Safety and Driver-Assistive Technology
As with all Honda vehicles, safety is a primary focus, starting with the CR-V’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that helps make the CR-V highly effective at absorbing and dispersing the energy of a frontal collision crash. Overall, the body receives more than 60 changes to improve stiffness and collision performance, and the 2015 CR-V is targeted to achieve top safety ratings, including a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a NCAP 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA. Standard safety equipment on all models include Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) electronic stability control system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, frontal airbags, side-curtain airbags, SmartVent® front-side airbags, and a front seat design that can help reduce the severity of neck injury in the event of a rear collision. The newly available Honda Sensing™ suite of safety and driver assistive features includes Honda LaneWatch™, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). These systems benefit from the adoption of new sensor fusion technology that integrates the capabilities of a windshield-mounted monocular camera and millimeter wave radar to provide enhanced sensing with ability to identify and anticipate multiple collision scenarios, including a pedestrian collision, and initiate warnings and, in some cases, emergency braking.

Warranty
The 2015 Honda CR-V is covered by a comprehensive 3-year/36,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain limited warranty. Additional benefits of ownership include Honda Roadside Assistance, which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance during the 3-year/36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty term. CR-Vs are manufactured at the Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc., East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio using domestic and globally sourced parts.

Honda CR-V Named 2015 Motor Trend Sport/Utility Of The Year

  • Refreshed CR-V chosen for its fuel economy, driving dynamics, long list of new safety features and overall refinement
  • Noted for its new Touring trim with Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive safety technologies
  • America’s best-selling SUV over the past decade

The Honda CR-V has won Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year for 2015.

The CR-V claims the title with a long list of vehicle enhancements for 2015, including its improved fuel economy and uncompromised driving dynamics, thanks to the inclusion of Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology™ powertrain, the launch of an all-new Touring trim, the debut of Honda Sensing™ safety and driver assistive technologies and the CR-V’s excellent value for money paradigm.

Motor Trend editor-in-chief Ed Loh, said, “The 2015 Honda CR-V impressed our judges with its extensive list of delightful design and thoughtful engineering improvements. Our editors were especially impressed by Honda’s responsive and efficient continuously-variable transmission and sophisticated safety systems – particularly the smart and seamlessly integrated Lane Keeping Assist system. “It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award from the expert staff at Motor Trend,” said Jeff Conrad, SVP & General Manager of Honda Division, American Honda Motor Co, Inc. “Our engineers, planners, and dealers work hard to deliver class leading products to our customers, and it’s extremely rewarding to be recognized for that hard work. This award fromMotor Trend reaffirms for us that we’re meeting that goal.”

In addition to the Honda CR-V, the 2015 Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year competition included 18 other all-new or significantly updated SUVs:

BMW X4
BMW X5
Cadillac Escalade

Chevrolet Suburban
Ford Expedition

GMC Yukon XL
Jeep Cherokee
Lexus NX
Lincoln MKC
Lincoln Navigator
Mercedes-Benz GLA
Nissan Rogue
Porsche Macan
Subaru Outback
Toyota Highlander
Volvo XC60

Motor Trend’s Sport/Utility of the Year is not a comparison test, and is only open to all-new or substantially upgraded vehicles that have gone on sale in the 12 months from November 1 of the previous year.

To judge contenders for the award, Motor Trend’s editorial staff conducted an exhaustive three-phase testing process. Phase one includes a full tech check and weigh-in, then full track testing to establish baseline data for acceleration, braking and handling. Phase two involves three days of road loops offering a range of road surfaces and traffic conditions to evaluate ride and handling, engine and transmission smoothness and responsiveness, wind and road noise and ergonomics. An off-road section tests traction, stability, and braking control systems. In the third phase the judges debate and deliberate. The judging criteria include the following categories:

Design Advancement - well-executed exterior and interior styling; innovative vehicle packaging; good selection and use of materials.
Engineering Excellence - total vehicle concept and execution; clever solutions to packaging, manufacturing and dynamics issues; cost-effective tech that benefits the consumer.
Performance of Intended Function - how well the vehicle does the job its planners, designers, and engineers intended it to do.
Efficiency - low fuel consumption and carbon footprint, relative to the vehicle’s competitive set.
Safety - a vehicle’s ability to help the driver avoid a crash, as well as the secondary safety measures that protect its occupants from harm during a crash.
Value - competitive price and equipment levels, measured against those of vehicles in the same market segment.

Priced from $23,320, the CR-V is offered with a new Honda Earth Dreams Technology™ 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine and CVT (continuously variable transmission). The CR-V can be had in either front- or all-wheel drive, and it earns best-in-class fuel economy, with and EPA-estimated 27 mpg city/34 mpg highway/ 29mpg combined for front-wheel-drive models, and 26/33/28-mpg for all-wheel drive.

The 2015 CR-V is expected to receive a Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and its official safety ratings will be released later this year. The 2015 CR-V is manufactured exclusively for the North American market at Honda plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico using domestic and globally sourced parts.

The recognition from Motor Trend validates the sales success of the Honda

CR-V, which sold more than 300,000 units last year, and is on track to do the same in 2014. CR-V’s strong sales performance has been a consistent triumph for the Honda brand since the vehicle’s introduction, leading CR-V to become the best-selling SUV in the industry over the past decade.

Honda Accord and CR-V are America’s Most Popular Car and SUV with Retail Car Buyers in First Half of 2014; and Honda CR-V Captures the Title of Best-Selling SUV of the Past Decade

  • Retail car buyers choose Accord more than any other car in America1
  • CR-V builds on ten years as the most popular, best-selling SUV in America2
  • Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey each post segment-leading retail results at the halfway mark of 20141

With the Accord and CR-V attracting retail customers in record numbers in the first half of 2014, Honda is again leading the industry with the most popular car and SUV in America, according to a Honda analysis of new-vehicle retail registration data from IHS Automotive. Based on Honda forecasts, the Accord and CR-V are on track to repeat their 2013 full-year results as top picks with U.S. retail car and SUV buyers, while CR-V continues to hold the title as the best-selling SUV in America for more than a decade.

Accord is once again the most popular car in America, with industry-leading sales to individual U.S. car buyers for the first half of 2014, while CR-V is both the retail and outright best-selling SUV based on retail registrations through June 2014, a position it’s held for seven of the past 10 years, culminating in the highest sales of any SUV in America during the past decade. Joining the Accord and CR-V as retail leaders in their segments for the first half of 2014 are the Honda Civic and Odyssey minivan.

Moreover, each of Honda’s four segment-leading models is on target to repeat its retail leadership performance from 2013, despite the fact that Honda has the lowest overall incentive spending among the top seven automakers. Three of the four models – Accord, Civic and CR-V – are each on track to earn sales in excess of 300,000 units for the second consecutive year, with fleet sales in the low single digits, as Honda targets all-time record sales in 2014.

“More individual customers put a new Honda Accord in their driveway in the first half of this year than any other new car in America, and SUV buyers continue to choose CR-V more than any other SUV in America,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “While competitors rely on deep-discounts and sales to corporate and rental fleets, Honda continues to achieve steady and sustainable growth based on the quality and value of our products in the hands of individual customers.”

Honda brand highlights for the first half of 2014 include:

  • Excluding full-size pickups, the Accord, Civic and CR-V continue to hold three of the top five slots – first, third and fourth, respectively – in retail registrations among individual car buyers in the first half of 2014.
  • The Accord, with retail registrations totaling 181,939 units through June, has strengthened its lead over its nearest competitor in the past three months, compared to the first three months of 2014.
  • Retail registrations accounted for 98.2 percent3 of all Accord registrations for the period, according to Honda analysis of IHS Automotive new-vehicle registration data.
  • Civic retail registrations of 160,293 units led all compact cars, increasing its lead over the closest segment competitor, which is now more than 26,000 units, compared to cumulative totals in the first quarter of 2014.
  • CR-V is America’s outright best-selling SUV of this year, and of the past decade. On a retail basis, CR-V registrations rose 6.6 percent to 153,968 units compared to the first half of last year, giving CR-V a more than 27,000-unit lead over the #2 selling vehicle in the segment so far in 2014.
  • Odyssey retail registrations of 62,096 units continue to make it the top choice among retail minivan customers –at 32 percent retail segment share. As a result, Odyssey sales have comprised nearly 1 of every 3 minivans purchased by individual buyers in America in 2014.

American Honda Reports June 2014 Sales-Increases All-Around!

  • Honda Civic and Accord post sales of more than 32,000 each in June for increases of 8.7 and 2.1 percent respectively
  • Honda CR-V posts best-ever 6-month sales performance with a gain of 6.1 percent YTD
  • Total Acura truck sales were up 6.1 percent in June
  • Acura MDX claims best-ever 6-month sales performance with an increase of 68.4 percent

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported June 2014 Honda and Acura vehicle sales of 129,023 units. The Honda division posted sales of 117,817 units in June while Acura sold 11,206 units in the same period. Year-to-date American Honda sales reached 739,436 units.

Honda
Honda’s core models—Accord, Civic and CR-V—continue to set the retail pace through the first half of 2014, with the Civic up 8.7 percent and Accord increasing 2.1 percent in June. However, retail consumers appeared to take a breath last month coupled with an unusually short number of selling days, the shortest June in five years.

  • Bucking a recent market shift toward SUVs, Civic is up 8.7 percent in June and 5.3 percent for the first six months of 2014—its best such period in a decade
  • Accord sales rise 2.1 percent in June
  • CR-V, the industry’s most popular SUV, posted a year-to-date gain of 6.1 percent for its best-ever 6-month sales performance
  • Despite low inventory as supply ramps up, the all-new 2015 Fit is driving new traffic at Honda dealerships

“Despite an easing of the pace in June, the larger sales trend throughout the industry remains robust,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda division senior vice president and general manager. “Our core products remain strong and though we’re still filling its supply pipeline, the new 2015 Fit is selling very well and we expect it to add yet another strong pillar to Honda sales in the near future.”

Acura
Overall Acura sales continue to reflect the decreasing supply of TL and TSX models as the company prepares for launch of the 2015 TLX line of luxury performance sedans later this summer. With an unprecedented first half of the year, MDX and RDX continue to sell at a near record pace, pushing Acura truck sales up 6.1 percent for the month.

  • Acura truck sales rise 6.1 percent in June
  • MDX June sales rose 27.7 percent on sales of 4,890 units
  • Posting its best-ever six-month sales performance, the Acura MDX led the division with sales of 30,644 units, an increase 68.4 percent over last year

“The MDX and RDX had a stellar first half of the year, certainly a good indicator that the Acura brand is moving in a strong direction,” said Mike Accavitti, Acura division senior vice president and general manager. “While we expected the reduced supply of sedans to impact sales this summer, the upcoming launch of the all-new 2015 TLX lineup heralds a new era for the Acura brand.”

Honda CR-V Picked Most Reliable SUV in United Kingdom

We know that the United Kingdom is across the pond (and over the river and through the woods), but we love to brag on our Hondas no matter where they are.

The annual “Which?” survey in the UK named the Honda CR-V 2.2 i-VTech as the most reliable 4×4/SUV for up to three years “with zero reported breakdowns, average annual repair costs of just £10 and an overall reliability score of 98.5% over a twelve month period. Furthermore the CR-V shone through with 0.14 faults reported, compared to 0.88 for the worst performing in its category; and 0.11 days off the road, with the worst performing recording an average 1.09 days.”

Those are pretty impressive results and certainly wouldn’t be much different from a Honda CR-V you can buy from Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda dealerships.

“Hondas have a reputation for reliability, dependability, and longevity,” said Tony Carter, general manager at Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “This proving especially true with the Honda CR-V. Which is really great because it’s a very popular vehicle with families and no one wants to broken down on the side of the road with their kids in the back seat.”

According to the article, “Adding his comments on the survey, Leon Brannan, Head of Cars for Honda (UK) said, “It’s fantastic to see Honda’s excellent reputation for reliability recognised yet again, particularly from a name as respected and trusted as Which?. It’s also really useful to get feedback from customers living with their Hondas day in, day out, as this gives us insight which we can use to continually maintain our high levels of service.”

Stop by Northwest Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Sims Honda dealership to take the reliable Honda CR-V for a test drive today!
