Green Car Journal Names Honda’s ECO Asist as Top 10 Green Technology

Honda’s “Ecological Drive Assist System,” ECO Assist for short, was named to Green Car Journal’s  list of top 10 green technology’s of 2013.

According to this article, “Honda said its ECO Assist technology can help drivers develop driving habits that enhance fuel efficiency by observing the speedometer background’s response to driving practices. Fuel-saving behaviors like smooth acceleration and braking make the meter glow green. Less fuel-efficient driving habits will cause the meter glow blue-green, while aggressive starts and stops that consume extra fuel cause the meter to glow blue.”

Honda hopes that using the ECO Assist technology will help drivers develop more fuel efficient driving habits over the long term.

“Honda is really thinking ahead with the ECO Assist technology,” said John Clough, sales manager at Northwest Honda dealership in Bellingham. “Not only does the vehicle itself have technology that reduces emissions and use less fuel, but it’s also helping people become more fuel efficient in the way they drive. It’s really revolutionary.”

Honda is hoping the visual nature of the technology will be easy to use and really make a difference.

“Honda developed the driver guidance and driver feedback functions of ECO Assist to help drivers improve their fuel economy, and in turn, to also benefit our environment,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “The visual nature of the technology is intended to help drivers improve their efficient driving skills by making it a more fun and rewarding experience.”

Honda is honored to be given this award by the Green Car Journal for its ground breaking technology.

“Honda’s ECO Assist system was selected as a Green Car Technology Award finalist for its innate ability to help drivers enhance their fuel efficiency,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and www.CarsOfChange.com. “In an era of increased demands on environmental performance from consumers and government alike, we wanted to highlight the innovative technologies like ECO Assist that make their incredible achievements possible.”

Honda’s ECO Assist technology is available on the 2013 Honda Civic, 2013 Honda CR-V, and the 2013 Honda Accord.

For your opportunity to check out Honda’s innovative ECO Assist technology or any other of Honda’s amazing technology, stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda or Apple Valley Honda today.

Three Hondas in Top Six of Greenest Cars

The Honda Fit, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Honda Insight were listed in the top six of Greencars.org’s ‘greenest’ cars list for 2012.

The Honda Fit placed second, the Honda Civic Hybrid placed fifth, and the Honda Insight placed sixth.

“This isn’t surprising at all,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “Honda prides itself on developing vehicles that get great gas mileage and are low-emissions. Whether its manufacturing, selling, or after the cars are sold, Honda wants to be low-impact on the environment.”

  • The Honda Fit (electric engine) was just one point short of the number one car. It gets 3.9/3.1 miles/highway per kilowatt hours (instead of mpgs).
  • The Honda Civic Hybrid gets 44 mpg (city and highway.
  • The Honda Insight gets 41/44 city/highway mpg

See the complete list HERE.

The Honda Fit is a hit with critics and consumers alike for its compact nature on the outside, but surprising amount of space on the inside. The Honda Civic was the best-selling car last year, in good part because of its reliable name and gas mileage. The Honda Insight is a relative unknown compared to the Fit and Civic, but obviously one that car-buyers should take a look at, especially if they want a car that’s environmentally friendly and gets fantastic gas mileage.

Honda Commercial Admits 2012 Deserved Better

The 2012 Honda Civic was the best-selling car last year, but still had some critics (who were professional critics). Honda took that criticism to heart and created the 2013 Honda Civic with a mid-cycle ‘remodel.’

Honda knows there’s always room for improvement and admitted as much in its commercial, which you can see HERE.

By all accounts the newest Civic is a hit with consumers and critics alike.

“The new Civic is has an improved interior and, the bottom line is, it’s still the Civic,” said John Clough, sales manager at Northwest Honda dealership in Bellingham. “You get some of the gas mileage in the industry, the reliability of a Honda, and incredible resale value. Plus, if you want a deal, you can always check out the 2012 Civic, which was the best-selling car last year despite what some people said about.”

Come see how Honda made the 2013 Honda Civic even better. Stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealership for a test drive.

2012 Honda Civic vs the 2013 Honda Civic

That title may be a little misleading. I mean, you can’t really ‘vs’ when you’re on the same team and one model is the new and improved version of the previous car, but this video is a very interesting and honest head-to-head comparison of the 2012 Honda Civic and 2013 Honda Civic.

If you’ve been following Honda news at all, you know that Honda came out with the 2012 Honda Civic that met some critics. However, as pointed out in the video, it was still the best-selling car in America. But CNN.com thinks that’s an “Awful lot of people who should’ve waited” for the 2013 Honda Civic.

And while the 2012 Honda Civic was still wildly successful with consumer, Honda believe there’s always room for improvement and, so, it took the Civic back to the drawing board and made some significant improvements. I highly recommend watching the video, but in case you don’t have 2-3 minutes, here are the highlights:

  • The 2013 Civic looks better on the outside with the new grill and lines
  • The 2013 Civic looks and feels better on the inside, even though it has the same design as the 2012;Honda upgraded the internal materials making it feel nicer
  • The steering and suspension feel better in the 2013 Civic
  • And, while the engines are the same (meaning the same, great gas mileage), the 2013 Civic is quieter and doesn’t seem as gruff.

These may not seem like big issues, but Honda took the criticism to heart and came out with a new and improved 2013 Honda Civic. This created an opportunity for buyers to purchase the improved 2013 Civic or get a great deal on the now “out-dated” 2012 Civic (again, the best-selling car of last year).

For your chance to see how improved the 2013 Honda Civic is or take advantage of deals on the ‘outdated’ 2012 Honda Civic (the best-selling car in America), stop by Sims Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Northwest Honda dealerships today!

Honda is Back and Better Then Ever

As this article points out, Honda has had a “bumpy” couple years. With the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011 causing major disruptions in manufacturing and some mixed critical reviews of the Honda Civic (consumers seemed more than happy with it), Honda had a little bit more work to do than normal to catch up.

Well, catch up…and surpass the competition, it did.

In fact, Honda sales are up more than 24 percent over last year, including a 39 percent increase in November. The revamped Honda Civic is being widely hailed as a winner by consumers and critics alike; Consumer Reports said Honda “nailed” the Honda Civic redesign.

Even with an unfortunate number of voluntary safety recalls, Honda has benefited from a well-earned brand of dependability, safety, and innovation. Consumers still trust Honda and that brand loyalty is starting to rise again.

So if you’ve turned away from Honda in the last couple years, we invite you to take a look at the 2013 Honda Civic, the acclaimed 2013 Honda Accord or any used Honda to know that you are in good hands. Honda built its reputation on trust and dependability, so you can trust that Honda will take care of you.

Stop by Sims Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Northwest Honda dealerships to check out any of the incredible new Honda vehicles that boast the best gas mileage, quality and technology in the industry.

Small Number of Honda Civics Recalled

Honda is voluntarily recalling a small number of Honda Civics because of potential problems with the steering column. The recall only affects 157 Civics built between Oct. 26 and Oct. 30 of this year. They were fitted with the wrong steering wheel column.

Owners will receive notice by mail starting Dec. 4 and the steering wheel column will be replaced free of charge.

Honda Civic Sales Top Toyota Corolla

The people have spoken and despite reported criticisms of the 2012 Honda Civic, it sold more than 30,000 units in November…beating out all other compact cars, including the Toyota Corolla that only sold 22,000 units.

Some called the Honda Civic bland and boring, but maybe that’s what the people want.

Well, Honda also listened to the critics and has a revamped version of the Honda Civic coming in just a couple months. It will be interesting to see how the sales between the two Civics will compare. My prediction is the 2013 Civic will take over the previous version, but it will still stay in the top five compact cars.

“The Honda Civic will always be a strong seller because it has been around for so long and has shown how dependable it is,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda dealership in Wenatchee. “The 2012 Honda Civic lives up to the Civic name and gives drivers and passengers everything they expect in a Civic, including excellent gas mileage. The 2013 Civic is a little sportier and has improved performance. I love both Civics.”

For your opportunity to see why the Honda Civic beat out all other compact cars, come to Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda or Sims Honda for a test drive.

The Benefits to Buying a Honda with the Navigation System Included

The Benefits to Buying a Honda with the Navigation System Included

If you decide to buy a new vehicle from Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda then it is worth considering opting to have a model with GPS built-in to the dashboard.  It’s possible to have fully-integrated GPS with the following ranges; Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-Z, CRV, Element, Fit, Insight, Odsyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline.  But why pay a small bit extra for GPS?  There are a number of reasons, both economical benefits and also green-living factors.  Here’s why you should consider this added extra.

No Need to Buy a Standalone GPS

If you have the Honda Navigation System then there is no need to spend money on a separate device such as a Garmin or TomTom.  In addition to that, the GPS will be fully integrated into your dashboard with no messy wires visible, plus some models even come with a rear-view camera installed so you can get in and out of those tricky small spaces a lot easier.

Using a GPS Device Saves You Money

Recent research conducted in Germany monitored the driving habits over a year of one thousand people.  Half of them used a GPS, and the remaining half relied on instinct and road knowledge.  The ones using a GPS satellite navigation product on average made the following savings over a 12 month period:

  • Overall drove shorter distances
  • They spent less time driving and behind the wheel
  • Their fuel efficiency was increased by a factor 12%
  • Gas consumption fell from a high of 8.3 to 7.3 liters every 100km
  • This better fuel economy equated to a .91 ton reduction their C02 emissions annually per driver
  • They manage to reduce their annual driving distances 2,500km for each driver

The reason these savings are made in both the wallet and environment is because a GPS like the Honda Navigation System will always try to route you the quickest or shortest route possible.  The new Honda Navigation units also come with Real-Time Traffic alerts.  This means you will know about a traffic jam before you reach it, and the GPS will re-route you to avoid it.  Traffic jams are the number one place for high fuel consumption and gas costs due to the “stop-start” nature of the driving style adopted.

For more information on Honda Navigation System updates and the savings you can make with the Honda dashboard devices please visit: www.hondanavigationdvd.net.  Also please make sure that you speak to you local dealer about the price options available should you wish to opt for the system in your new Honda purchase.

Man Close to 1,000,000 Mile Goal in His Honda Civic

Man Close to 1,000,000 Mile Goal in His Honda Civic

The only thing bringing down this 2006 Honda Civic with 750,000 miles on it? A deer.

“I’ll keep driving this car ’till I hit another deer. After that it’s getting put up in the garage where I’ll start rebuilding it from the ground up as my daily driver,” Paul Habib, Jr. said.

Habib, Jr. purchased his beloved Honda Civic USED (whoa!) in 2007 and promptly started putting the miles on. In his job as a salesman, he puts about 3,600 per week! After about five years, that car now has more than 750,000 miles on it. Habib, Jr.’s goal is to reach 1 million nukes using owner/mechanic heroics, planning and luck (mostly by missing the ‘kamikaze’ deer that jump across the roads as he’s driving around Kentucky).

“The measures Habib, Jr. goes to to maintain and upkeep his Honda Civic are amazing,” said Rich Elsensohn, Service and Parts Manager at Apple Valley Honda dealership in Wenatchee. “Obviously he knows a thing or two about cars that the average person doesn’t…I mean, he took the engine out of his car when he thought it died…but he also doesn’t let things like not having a garage keep him from taking care of it himself. He’s devoted to his Honda and that’s just great!”

Hondas are known for being long-lasting and taking care of their owners, especially when their owners take care of them! The story of Habib, Jr. speaks to the fact that certified used Hondas and the quality pre-owned vehicles sold by Honda can serve their owners well…really well.

“We have people bringing their cars in here with hundreds of thousands of miles on it,” Elsensohn said. “They love their Hondas. Not only that, but people aren’t as afraid to buy a certified used Honda because they know they last for such a long time if you take care of them.”

Habib, Jr.’s (unfinished) story isn’t just a story about the 8th generation Honda Civic that he ‘fell in love with,’ it’s also the story of how loyal Honda customers are! There are whole web sites dedicated to high-mileage Hondas and why would any drive their car that long unless they loved it?

And we appreciate our loyal customers right back.

“We love our loyal Honda customers,” says Alicia Jones, Honda’s Public Relations Manager. “Stories like these are a testament to how people have come to count on their Hondas for more than 50 years to get them to where they need to go.”

Even if you’re not looking to put 1 million miles on a car, a new or certified used Honda is a great investment…because you know you could put 1 million miles on it if you really wanted to. Head to Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda or Sims Honda today to find the Honda that will take you 1 million miles.
