Honda Civic Safest Small Car in Insurance Safety Test

The Honda Civic was one of the few small cars that received a “good” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

According to this article, “The Civic is the top-selling model in the U.S. so far this year in its segment of “upper small” cars, according to Autodata Corp., a Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey-based industry researcher.Toyota Motor Corp. (7203)’s Corolla ranks second. The Civic is Honda’s second-best-selling vehicle in the U.S. after the larger Accord.

“The two- and four-door Civics, made by Honda, based in Tokyo, both scored “good,” the top rating, in the insurance institute’s simulation. Honda has designed its vehicles to withstand the types of crashes in this test and to have a survivable space for the driver after impact.”

Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee said this underscores a good point: you don’t have sacrifice safety to own a small car.

“There are so many big vehicles on the road, that people want to make sure they will be safe in a collision if they choose to buy a small car,” said McLaughlin. “This study shows that if you want the safest small car on the market, you need to buy a Honda Civic.”

Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda in Bellingham, or Sims Honda dealership to take the Honda Civic for a test drive and experience first hand the safest small car on the road.

Sleek Honda Civic Wagon Heads to Europe

Honda unveiled its standout Honda Civic Tourer wagon with a sleek sports car look that will no doubt make it stand out.

In Europe only. Darn it.

According to this article, “Honda says the Civic Tourer will stand out in Europe’s crowded compact wagon segment because of its “sleek and sophisticated exterior combined with class-leading interior space.”

Although this Honda Civic Tourer won’t be available at Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda dealerships, we thought it was a pretty cool looking wagon. Heck, there would probably be some anti-wagon husbands out there that wouldn’t driving this dynamic wagon.

Honda is hoping so because they are counting on 20 percent of their Civic sales in Europe to be wagons.

What do you think of the Honda Civic Tourer? Would you like to see something like this here in the United States?

Honda Accord, Civic Remain Most Stolen Vehicles in U.S.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau released its findings for its latest study on the most stolen vehicles in the United States.

The top two spots were occupied by Hondas.

“Honda took the top two spots in the most stolen vehicles list, with 58,596 Accord models stolen and 47,037 Civic models stolen. The study is interesting, though, in that the most recent model year for the Accord is 1997, while the most recent the Civic is 2000. In fact, Hondas from 1990 to 2000 make up 16 of the top 20 cars stolen in 2012, according to the NICB. Compare that with the MY2012 list, where Honda’s vehicles are eleventh and fifteenth, and it looks like the Japanese brand has been beefing up its theft control.”

Here at Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, and Apple Valley Honda, we love your Honda almost as much as you do, so be sure to lock your vehicle’s doors and keep valuables out of sight.

Honda Tops All Other Automakers in Four Main Categories

2013 Honda Accord

TORRANCE, California, July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Honda topped all mainstream automakers in percentage of sales to retail buyers during the first five months of 2013, with more than 98 percent[1] of the brand’s auto sales in the U.S. sold to individual (non-fleet) consumers, based on new-vehicle registration data from R.L. Polk & Co. With a strong focus on providing long-term value and low cost of ownership to its customers, the Honda brand has increased sales by 6.5 percent in 2013 with 668,597 Honda cars and light trucks finding new homes through the end of June.

Honda’s four best-selling models, Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey, lead their respective segments[2] in sales to retail consumers. Together, these segments represent more than 50 percent of all light-duty vehicle sales in the United States.

“We’re earning our sales growth on the strength of our products and the value they deliver to individual car buyers,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Our strategy is unique among volume automakers, as we are focused on selling vehicles to individual car buyers and not corporate sales to fleets, which is why Honda vehicles have among the lowest cost of ownership and highest resale values in the industry.”

In the highly competitive mid-size segment, where Accord leads retail sales, many high-volume entrants have sold in excess of 30 percent[1] of their vehicles to fleet customers thus far in 2013 while over 98 percent[1] of Accords were sold to individuals (non-fleet). The 2013 Accord is the most-awarded[3] mid-size car when it comes to value.

“Honda continues to deliver on the promise that made them the Residual Value Award recipient for 2013,” said Eric Lyman, vice president of Editorial for ALG. “Honda keeps incentives and fleet penetration low – two actions that heavily impact future values. With high volume models like Accord and CR-V at the top of their respective segments, Hondas hold their value better than any other brand.”

According to Honda analysis of Polk new-vehicle registration data, more than 19 percent[1] of light-duty vehicle industry sales so far this year have been to non-retail customers such as rental-car companies, corporate and government fleet operations, most at steeply discounted prices compared to the average retail transaction price. Discounts on large volumes of vehicles can have a long-term negative impact on the residual or resale values of vehicles purchased at retail. This effectively increases the cost-of-ownership for retail buyers when they eventually sell or trade-in their vehicles.

Honda Civic Tourer Will Have Rear-only Damping

Honda is leading the way by introducing the first rear-only Adaptive Damper System on the new CivicTourer.

According to this article, “While active damping systems have been deployed for a number of years, this marks first use of such a system for the rear only in a production model. Honda told Autocar that using a rear-only setup delivers 80% of the functionality of a fully adaptive chassis at half the cost.

“This system features three settings—comfort, normal and dynamic—all of which have been developed to enhance stability and comfort under the varying load and driving conditions that the Civic Tourer is likely to experience.

“The Tourer is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013, before being launched in early 2014.”

We are excited to see the 2014 Honda Civic Tourer unveiled this fall, but we are really anxious to see how the rear-only damping performs!

2013 Honda Accord Named Best New Sedan Under $25,000 by Kelly Blue Book

Kelley Blue Book and editors at KBB.com announced that the 2013 Honda Accord is the best all-around sedan. At same time, KBB.com also announced the 2013 Honda Civic is the best new compact car. We can’t really add much to what the news release said, so here it is in it’s entirety.

I guess we could add, Woo hoo!

“The 2013 Honda Accord and Civic were named to KBB.com’s list of the 10 Best New Sedans Under $25,000. The Honda Accord was the top ranked vehicle on the list of new vehicles introduced in 2013 compiled by the auto experts at KBB.com. The Civic was the highest rated compact car on the list.

“Nothing beats the value Accord and Civic offer customers” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of auto operations at American Honda. “Both models deliver on all fronts – value, performance, fuel efficiency, top safety ratings and a wide array of standard features – all at a competitive price point.”

“As the top ranked model on the list, the Accord was recognized by the editors of KBB.com for its sophisticated styling, excellent driving performance and innovative features, like the available LaneWatch™ blind spot display. 2012 Honda Civic Gets Praise from MotorWeek

Much has been written about why the 2012 Honda Civic was redesigned so quickly. Like this blogger, some say it was because it was “so bad.” However, bloggers like him seem to miss the point that it was still the best selling compact car in the U.S. last year. And usually consumers know the difference between bad and good cars.

That being said, expectations were set high for the 2012 Honda Civic and some critics were disappointed. However, the folks at MotorWeek were not as evidenced by this video calling the 2012 Honda Civic energy smart and stating it is “excellence evolved.”

This critic notes that while the actual size of the car was smaller, the interior of the 2012 Honda Civic actually grew, among other positive features, including incredible gas mileage that the Honda Civic is renowned for. While the 2013 Honda Civic is an incredible redesign, the 2012 Honda Civic is still available at many Honda dealerships and, because of that quick redesign, available at an even better value.

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda to see if there are any great deals on the 2012 Honda Civic…new or used!

Honda Civic Tourer Specs!

At first this article confused me. Yes, I figured out they meant ‘trunk’ where they used boot, but only because my mum is Canadian and I had to have that explained to me several times when visiting family.

But it still threw me off every time I read it, which was a lot because the Honda Civic Tourer has a huge boot…er…trunk!

This article has some great details about the new Honda Civic Tourer set to debut in Europe this September (no word about the U.S.), but mostly the pictures of it caught my attention. Drivers could do a lot of stuff with a Honda Civic with a trunk that big! Perfect for “dog owners and towing.”

A Honda Civic towing? Yes!

With as much as Americans love the Honda Civic, it would only make sense to have this Honda Civic Tourer available here, too…right?

Right! :)

Honda Civic to Get Earth Dreams Engine

The state-of-the-art Earth Dreams engine developed by Honda will soon have a new home: the ever-popular Honda Civic.

Really, this announcement makes perfect sense. The Honda Civic is one of the most efficient, gasoline friendly cars on the roads and the Earth Dreams engine, a direct-injection engine, further increases the fuel economy of any car.

This is a great announcement and people are always looking for cars with the best fuel economy, so I thought it was interesting that it sounded like Honda was having to defend its decision by saying, “”Gasoline prices are stabilizing in the mid-$3-a-gallon range, and Detroit is selling quite a few pickups,” Iwamura said. “Yet while the average person sees those numbers, their income hasn’t risen that much. It’s wrong to say Americans don’t care about fuel economy. They care.”

Uh, yeah. WE CARE!

It looks like the revolutionary Earth Dreams engine should be installed in the 2015 Honda Civic. We’ll look forward to that!

Honda Civic Si Transformed Into a Race Car: Video

We were intrigued by this short video that transforms your regular 2012 Honda Civic Si into a race car on the biggest stage. Because of the length of the video, I thought it would be a relatively easy process.

Well, it’s not exactly easy.

But it isvery interesting. And I’m not even a take-the-car-apart-and-put-it-back-together kind of gal.

If you want to see how a regular Honda Civic Si goes from normal commuter car to racing machine, check out this short documentary. It’s pretty cool.
