2015 Honda Civic Type R is “Brilliant”

It’s big Honda news to have the 2015 Honda Civic Type R unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show…we’re just sad that it won’t be sold in the United States.

But, that’s no reason not celebrate the “brilliance” of the 2015 Honda Civic Type R, especially because some of its components may turn up in the new Honda CR-Z.

While the look of 2015 Honda Civic Type R is certainly striking, the writers at Motor Authority were especially struck by its performance: “We recently drove a prototype, complete with Honda’s new direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and found it to be absolutely brilliant. The engine also comes with Honda’s VTEC variable valve timing and should deliver at least 280 horsepower in production form.”

Check out the article linked above for more pictures and video about the new 2015 Honda Civic Type R.

Honda Accord is #1 in Retails Sales; Four Models Take Best-in-Class Awards

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Honda Accord was the best-selling car with individual American car buyers in 2013 and was joined by three other Honda models – the Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey – as retail sales leaders in their respective segments in 2013, according to new-vehicle registration data compiled by Polk, which was recently acquired by IHS. The Accord, built in Marysville, Ohio1, also had the No. 1 produced car in America in 2013.

U.S. Car Shoppers Propel Honda Accord to #1 in Retail Sales in 2013; Four Honda Models Take Best-in-Class Leadership based on Polk New-Vehicle Registrations

Cumulatively, the Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey posted retail sales of more than 1.11 million units in 2013, each earning the business of more than 300,000 individual American car buyers. Excluding full-size pickups, only one other model across the entire industry posted retail sales of more than 300,000 units in 2013.

“Our focus on retail sales to individual buyers has a direct correlation to the high resale value of Honda products, which is a key factor in the value proposition for our customers,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of automobile sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We want to thank car buyers for making four Honda vehicles America’s top choices, purchased one car at a time.”

Additional highlights from the Polk /IHS Automotive data included:

  • Honda’s 2013 retail sales rose 8.4 percent from year-ago totals to 1,332,576 Honda cars and light trucks
  • Individual sales to retail car buyers made up 98.1 percent of all American Honda sales in 2013, compared to an average of 81.7 percent for all other non-luxury vehicles
  • Accord retail sales in 2013 rose12.2 percent to 360,089
  • In addition to being retail sales leaders, both the Civic and CR-V ranked as the overall best-selling models in their respective segments for the third consecutive year, and both saw retail sales and registrations jump 8.2 percent in 2013
  • The Odyssey also captured an impressive 32.2 percent of the U.S. retail registrations for minivans in 2013, selling nearly 25,000 more vehicles than the nearest competitor in the segment

Honda has been named the Most Trusted Brand by Kelley Blue Book for two consecutive years (2012 and 2013) and the Best Value Brand by Automotive Lease Guide for six years in a row (2008 through 2013), in part due to the consistently high resale value of its products.

Four Honda Vehicles Earn Recognition on ACEEE’s List of “Greenest” and “Greener” Vehicles of 2014

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire- — Four Honda vehicles have earned recognition from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) for superior environmental performance, including three that ranked in the top ten among the ACEEE’s “greenest vehicles of 2013.” In the ACEEE’s annual “Green Book® Online” ranking of environmentally responsible vehicles, the Honda Civic Hybrid placed fifth overall and in the top three among gasoline-powered vehicles, while the Civic Natural Gas and the Insight placed ninth and tenth, respectively.

Moreover, the fuel-efficient Odyssey was the highest ranked minivan and was named as a “greener choices of 2014.” This is the 16th straight year that multiple Honda vehicles have been named to the top 12.

“Honda has embraced the challenge to bring to market more energy-efficient mobility solutions to reduce CO2 emissions,” said Steven Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “ACEEE’s recognition of Honda’s fuel-efficient models over the past 16 years, including a diverse lineup of alternative fuel vehicles, is recognition of the Honda engineers who continue to work towards our goal to leave ‘Blue Skies for our Children.’”

The ACEEE ranking system uses a singular measure that incorporates fuel economy and health-related pollution impacts plus global warming and upstream emissions. All vehicles are analyzed and given a “Green Score” which is used to rank each vehicle’s total environmental performance, including a list of the 12 “greenest” and 12 “meanest” vehicles along with a ranking of greenest vehicles by segment.

Honda’s Environmental Leadership
Honda has a long history of environmental innovation, including the retail introduction of America’s first hybrid (1999 Honda Insight), delivery of the first fuel-cell electric vehicle in the U.S. (2002 Honda FCX) and the first gasoline-powered vehicles in the hands of consumers to meet stricter emissions standards, including the 1996 Honda Civic, the first gasoline Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV); the 1998 Honda Accord, the first gasoline Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV); the 2000 Honda Accord, the first gasoline Super Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) in the hands of consumers; the 2001 Civic Natural Gas, the first vehicle to qualify as an Advanced Technology Partial-Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV); and, most recently, the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In, the first Super Ultra-Low Emissions 20 Vehicle (LEV 3/SULEV 20), now available for lease and sale in California and New York state.

2014 Honda Civic Coupe Makes Today a Good Day

We haven’t seen many commercials for the 2014 Honda Civic Coupe, which is really too bad because it is an awesome driving machine.

We did, however, find this one that seems to sum up the design and attitude of the 2014 Honda Civic Coupe with the song “Today is Pretty Great.” We think that any day you’re driving a 2014 Honda Civic Coupe is pretty great.

“The 2014 Honda Civic Coupe is really fun to drive,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda in Burlington. “I definitely drives more like a sports car than what you think you would get in a regular compact car. If you want a car that can really get up and go at an affordable price, then you should really come check out the 2014 Honda Civic.”

2015 Honda Fit, 2014 Civic Infotainment System is “Advanced”

Infotainment systems are becoming as important as vehicle performance and comfort. People want superior technology and access to the desired information when they want it…how they want it.

The infotainment system in the 2014 Honda Civic and in the newly unveiled 2015 Honda Fit, is exactly what consumers want: simple yet advanced.

According to this article, “Debuting at the recent Detroit Auto Show, the new Fit features a 7-inch touchscreen that lets users swipe, pinch, and tap — just like a smartphone. Instead of Honda’s old, two-screen i-MID display with jog wheel, the Fit’s infotainment system is streamlined and easy to use.”

The 2015 Honda Fit is only the second car (after the Honda Civic) to have Siri Eyes Free Integration. At the Detroit Auto Show, the infotainment “…impressed. It was quick to process and responsive to inputs. And the pinch and swipe capacity was on par with most smartphones.”

This is just one more reason to check out the 2014 Honda Civic and look forward to the 2015 Honda Fit!

Kicking Tires’ Honda Civic Gets a Ding

I wrote about the three accidents my family has been in over the past few months, so it was nice to see this article and know that we aren’t the only ones who have bad things happen to their Hondas.

This incident wasn’t exactly the same since the Honda Civic was the victim of a two car accident that overflowed on to the parking spot where the Civic was resting, but damage was done as you can see in the pictures featured in the article here.

We also thought it was timely considering all of the icy, snowy weather much of the Eastern United States is getting. No doubt there will be a few fender benders during this time. The great news for all those Honda drivers is that Hondas are so well designed that they absorb as much as the impact as possible so you do not (I speak from personal experience). Our situation was similar to this one where the damage didn’t LOOK real bad until the repair experts got in there and saw how much impact the car had taken under the surface…specifically designed that way to keep occupants safe.

“Accidents happen,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “It might be your fault, it might not be. But in a Honda you can have confidence that your are driving some of the safest cars are on the road.”

Honda Civic Sales Leave Toyota Corolla in the Dust

The Honda Civic was by far the best-selling compact vehicle in 2013 leaving all competition, including the second best-selling car, the Toyota Corolla.

The Honda Civic sold 336,180 units. Trailing pretty far behind as second-best is the Toyota Corolla with 302,180.

“People expect a pretty good competition between the Honda Civic and The Toyota Corolla,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda in Burlington. “But, according to the sales last year, there is NO competition. The Honda Civic is the clear winner with it’s new design and excellent gas mileages; it’s definitely the best compact car available.”

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda to find out why the Honda Civic was the best-selling compact car in 2013!

Honda Has 3 of Top Ten Best-Selling Vehicles in 2013

Three Hondas were named in the top ten of best-selling vehicles of 2013, more than any other automaker!

  • The Honda Accord was the fourth best-selling selling vehicle
  • The redesigned Honda Civic was sixth (and there’s a good chance it will rise in the rankings this year)
  • The Honda CR-V was eighth

“People love Hondas,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “I think it’s a testament to the fact that Honda has established a reputation of creating cars that people want that are also dependable and have great value.”

Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, or Northwest Honda dealerships to find out why these three cars are some of the most popular vehicles in the U.S.

Redesigned 2014 Honda Civic Earns Praise

[Honda Press Release]

The Honda Civic has been a household name in the automobile market for the majority of its career. Capturing countless awards and titles for its style, features and all-around value, it’s safe to say the Civic won’t be making an exit from the automobile world anytime soon. To be sure of its long-term residence however, Honda continues to advance their beloved 2014 Civic with new styling, performance and interior upgrades.

Matt Castrucci Honda has been proudly providing Honda automobiles to the Dayton, Ohio and surrounding-area residents for years now, and always makes sure their Civic selection is among the best around. Even after the Civic’s complete redesign only a few short years ago, Matt Castrucci Honda seems to have taken extra notice to their 2014 Civic model with a special page dedicated to it on their website.

Among some of the most noticeable changes to the 2014 Civic are the new front end designs now featured on the coupe and Si models. Providing even more curb appeal, the 2014 Civic’s bumper, grille and side mirrors now encompass a much bolder look than ever before. Other notable updates can be found in the new continuously variable transmission, or CVT, used on select 2014 Civic models. Using more precise gear settings, the CVT increases horsepower output, driving feel and fuel economy figures. What this does is allows the Civic to keep the same 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine, but increase it’s engine output to 143 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque, adding even more performance to the already fun-to-drive Civic.

To learn more about all of the 2014 Honda Civic changes, interested parties can view the model overview here. Matt Castrucci Honda carries the full line of new Honda vehicles as well as a used inventory from various automakers.
