All-time Record Sales for Honda Accord Leads American Honda to Near-Record August

  • Honda Accord sets all-time monthly record with 51,075 units sold – up 32.5% in August
  • Honda Division sales reach 151,551, just 263 units shy of second-best month in history
  • New Acura TLX drives heavy dealer traffic in its first weeks on the market
  • Acura ILX has best-ever August sales, rising 5.7% for the month

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported August 2014 Honda and Acura vehicle sales of 167,038 units, an increase of 0.4 percent versus August of last year. The Honda division posted the third highest monthly sales result its 44-year history, on sales of 151,551 vehicles in August while Acura posted sales of 15,487 units in the same period. Year-to-date American Honda sales reached 1,042,382 units.

Honda
Accelerating its strong summer sales performance, the Honda brand topped 150,000 units in a single month for only the third time in its history, as Accord led the way selling at an all-time record pace in August.  [The all-time record of 153,104 units was set in the midst of a severe gas price hike in May 2008.]

  • 51,075 Accords were sold in August, an all-time monthly record and an increase of 32.5 percent. It was the eighth-straight monthly gain for Accord.
  • Odyssey also showed strength in August, with 12,488 units sold for a gain of 12.9 percent.

“The fundamental strengths of the Honda brand are on full display as the Accord strengthened its position as the best-selling car uniquely driven by retail sales to individual buyers,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior vice president and general manager. “Our other core models, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey are also performing well and continue to drive our retail sales leadership in 2014. And the early market response to the redesigned 2015 Fit is a strong indicator of great things to come as supplies improve,” added Conrad.

Acura
With the new Acura TLX arriving at dealers across the country last month, enthusiastic customers gave Acura dealers much to cheer about in August, as the new luxury performance sedan sold nearly as fast as dealers could unload them from transport trucks. While TLX supplies continue to ramp up, the best-selling MDX continued to set a near-record pace, and ILX enjoyed its best August on record.

  • TLX went on-sale mid-August and is driving heavy dealer traffic to dealerships nationwide. The great majority of these early units were 3.5-liter V6 models as the 2.4-liter four cylinder began arriving later in the month and V6 SH-AWD models just starting to ship.
  • With supplies improving, the Acura ILX posted its best ever August result on sales of 1,798 units, an increase of 5.7 percent.

“With TLX less than a month on the market, our dealers are reporting incredible showroom traffic with customers trying to buy a TLX before we can get it on the dealer lot,” said Mike Accavitti, Acura division senior vice president and general manager. “Customer interest is the strongest we’ve seen on a new model launch, and we’re just now starting to deliver the highly-rated TLX four-cylinder and V6 SH-AWD models.”

Honda Accord Outsells Toyota Camry in August Sales Race

The 2014 Honda Accord handily beat out the Toyota Camry in number sold for the month of August, crowning the new Accord king of sedans as consumers took advantage of summer deals.

Honda’s Accord sales were up 33 percent over August 2013. A huge increase that reflects the 2014 model’s impressive redesign, technology, and overall value. A total of more than 51,000 Accords were sold.

“Both the Accord and Camry are great cars,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “But with the 2014 Honda Accord, you get more technology, incredible model options to maximize what’s important in your lifestyle like gas mileage for the hybrid or performance with the coupe. People recognized that in August and we think that as word spreads we are going to share the Accord with a lot of people.”

Features like standard back up cameras and Honda’s LaneWatch technology, simply make the 2014 Honda Accord a better choice.

“While competitors rely on deep discounts and sales to corporate and rental fleets, Honda continues to achieve steady and sustainable growth based on the quality and value of our products in the hands of individual customers,” Jeff Conrad, Honda division general manager, said in a statement.

No Minivan Tops Honda Odyssey

The 2014 Honda Odyssey is the simply the best minivan available. That’s not just what we think, that’s according to Cars.com. The newest version of the Honda Odyssey is just the Odyssey pulling further away from the competition.

“The minivan market is pretty competitive,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “But the 2014 Honda Odyssey really proves there is no competition. It has led and will continue to lead the minivan pack because it is the best designed, most functional, most technological advanced, and most family friendly minivan available.”

The short video by Cars.com shows exactly why the 2014 Honda Odyssey is better than all the rest:

  • 1 mpg improvement over the last model
  • Touchscreen infotainment control
  • Better materials
  • HondaVac, which is the vacuum designed by ShopVac that reaches all the way to the front of the van.
  • Would win a race with any other minivan, including the Toyota Sienna
  • The seats expand outward to make more room for car seats
  • There is a 15 inch widescreen tv…that can split into two media AND 5.1 surround sound!

Certainly the Honda Odyssey is not a cheap vehicle, but compared to other minivans is right in the ball park. But compared to many vehicles it is by far the best value for everything that comes with it.

For this reason, we thought it’d be good to share this commercial that showcases that the Honda Civic is hot weather and cold weather approved. In fact, it’s been tested in EXTREMES on both ends of the weather spectrum. Check out the commercial and a brief article about it HERE.

  • Full range of CR-Z street performance parts from HPD now on sale

Supercharged performance for the street is now available in the Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Coupe through a new dealer-installed Honda Performance Development (HPD) supercharger kit. Best known as Honda’s North American racing company, HPD developed a full line of street performance accessories for the CR-Z and first revealed them at the 2013 SEMA Show. With the debut of the supercharger kit this month, all of the HPD street performance components for the CR-Z are now available at Honda dealers in the United States.

“The CR-Z was the first hybrid to prove that efficiency doesn’t have to come at the cost of sportiness and fun,” said Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development. “With HPD street performance accessories, including the new supercharger kit, the CR-Z will surprise everyone again with even higher levels of performance directly inspired by our on-track racing efforts.”

Available for the 2013 and 2014 CR-Z, the HPD supercharger kit boosts total powertrain output to 197 hp1 (vs. 130 hp in the stock 2013 and 2014 CR-Z with manual transmission) and includes the HPD air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors, an ECU calibrated to meet CARB AT-PZEV regulations with 91 octane fuel and the HPD air filter system. The HPD supercharger kit maintains the balance of customer’s 5 year/ 60,000 mile Honda limited powertrain warranty when installed by a Honda dealer. The HPD supercharger kit is available exclusively for CR-Z manual transmission models and HPD has developed an optional limited slip differential and HPD sport clutch for those customers looking for an even higher level of performance.

When equipped with available HPD street performance accessories, the CR-Z (automobiles.honda.com/cr-z/hpd.aspx) can feature a variety of track-proven, street-reliable performance upgrades. HPD-developed powertrain modifications – tested on-track – include a high-efficiency centrifugal supercharger; HPD air-to-air intercooler; high-flow fuel injectors; an ECU calibrated to meet CARB AT-PZEV regulations with 91 octane fuel; HPD air filter system; and HPD sport exhaust. Chassis improvements include HPD sport dampers, coil springs with reduced ride height, 300mm diameter disc brakes and HPD 18-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The CR-Z is completed by a graphics package including front lip and tail spoilers, rear diffuser and HPD badge.
