2013 Honda Accord’s Technology Makes it a “Contender”

The performance, design, and overall quality of the 2013 Honda Accord has been well-documented by critics and consumers alike, but this reviewer sums up much of the success of the 2013 Honda Accord in one word: technology. Here’s what he had to say about some of his favorite technological features of the 2013 Honda Accord:

LaneWatch: “Instead of a simple blind spot warning light in the right exterior mirrror, Honda has a camera that SHOWS you what’s behind there. The camera displays its image on the “navi” screen, so as soon as you turn on your right turn signal, a video shows the road behind you on the right fading away. Of course, if there’s something in that vicinity, you’ll see that, too…The left outside rearview mirror has a split mirror with a more convex surface on the outer edge, again acting like a blind spot monitor. At first, I thought the convexity wasn’t enough, but it proved to be just right.”

Center console cameras: “There are two screens in the center of the dash; one for the navigation system (and back-up camera and blind spot monitor) and one for audio. If you aren’t using the top screen, it becomes a second audio screen.”

Green driving: “The best aid to green driving, however, is the speedometer surround. In normal mode, it is white, but when you start driving more economically, it turns green. Like many of these features, it almost becomes a game trying to keep it green.”

We agree that the technology included standard in all trims of the 2013 Honda Accord is what sets it apart from all other midsize sedans. That’s right, every trim comes with LaneWatch technology and a backup camera because Honda thinks that every driver should have technology to be safer.

Stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, or Apple Valley Honda today to see for yourself all the technology that the 2013 Honda Accord has to offer you!

2013 Honda Pilot Fit for Blizzard Conditions

According to the writer of this article, all the news of the “historic” blizzards in the Midwest make him want to be there in those storms, but only if he’s in the 2013 Honda Pilot.

While the concept of this article is rather comical (who really wants to be in a blizzard, even if they are in a 2013 Honda Pilot?), the information and reasoning is sound. With the Honda Pilot’s truck-like build, space, comfort features, and safety specs, the 2013 Honda Pilot could be on of the best vehicles to be in if you did happen to get caught in a winter storm.

Here’s why this writer thinks the 2013 Honda Pilot should be your vehicle of choice in a blizzard:

  • The 9-inch DVD player that drops down between the first and second row to keep the kids entertained while you crawl (or don’t move at all) on the frozen highway.
  • Room for 8 people..or 8 people’s-worth of luggage space. Could come in handy for those “He’s touching me!” moments.
  • Room for all your books, laptops, drinks, etc. (because you prepared just in case you got stuck in the blizzard; need to have stuff for entertainment and Pilot has plenty of places to put them)
  • Drives better than a truck, but you still get that same safety and security (invaluable in a blizzard)

“We can get lots of snow here in Wenatchee,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager of Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “The 2013 Honda Pilot is a big, safe vehicle that I think makes people feel safe driving it in winter weather and over the Cascade passes. It has the strength of a truck, but the comfort and space of a great SUV. It’s really the best of both worlds.”

Really, the 2013 Honda Pilot is great even if you do not get stuck in blizzards frequently, but if you live in place with harsh winters or travel frequently over mountain passes, then maybe you should take a look at the 2013 Honda Pilot. Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, or Northwest Honda to take a 2013 Honda Pilot for a test drive today!

2013 Honda Fit Wins Two “Best Car for the Money” Awards from U.S. News & World Report

The Honda Fit is one of Honda’s most popular vehicles, quickly gaining on the likes of the Civic and Accord. With two new awards from U.S. News & World Report, the 2013 Honda Fit will likely continue with its upward trend.

U.S. News & World Report awarded the 2013 Honda Fit as “Best Subcompact for the Money” and “Best Hatchback for the Money” beating out other popular models by Toyota, Subaru, and all other major manufacturers.

“The Fit brings truth to the concept that big things can come in small packages,” said Mike Accavitti , vice president of national marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “With an amazingly roomy interior, snappy styling, great driving dynamics and industry-leading Honda quality, Fit proves that small cars can provide value well beyond their size.”

The gas mileage, space, and Honda dependability has made the Honda Fit not just popular with experts and critics, but also with the average buyer.

“Lots of people come to Sims Honda thinking they either want an Accord or a CR-V,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “But they end up driving away in a Honda Fit after they get in and realize it has a lot of space, gets awesome gas mileage and has a very versatile interior. It has almost 91 cubic feet of passenger space and 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats! And it comfortably seats five people…unless you want to fold down the seats flat to utilize that space.”

According to the press release, “…the exclusive 60/40 split rear Magic Seat® offers multiple seating and cargo-carrying configurations. With its one-motion dive-down functionality, it can fold flat into the floor to provide a maximum 57.3 cu-ft. of rear cargo volume. Compared to any other vehicle in the subcompact class, the five-passenger Fit provides the lowest, flattest cargo floor and the most cargo volume. The Fit’s interior thus can easily be converted to tall-object mode or long-object mode based on the shape of the cargo.

Here are some of the other awards earned by the 2013 Honda Fit

  • A “Top Safety Pick” rating by the IIHS
  • A 2013 Residual Value Award from ALG
  • A 2013 Best Resale Value Award from KBB.com
  • Recognized as a “greener choice of 2013″ by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE)
  • A seven-time Car and Driver magazine “10Best Cars” award winner

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda or Apple Valley Honda dealerships to check out the award-winning (many times over) 2013 Honda Fit. You may think you want an Accord or CR-V, but don’t walk off the lot until you’ve taken the 2013 Honda Fit for a test drive and visualized your family and your stuff in its spacious passenger and cargo space.

2013 Honda Accord Coupe Only Vehicle in its Class to Earn 5-Star Safety Rating

We have written a lot about the 2013 Honda Accord Sedan and 2013 Honda Accord Coupe because there is a lot to write about. So this blog doesn’t become the “Honda Accord” blog, we try only to write when there’s really something worth writing about.

Well, the 2013 Honda Accord Coupe has done it again, and this is definitely newsworthy: it is the only vehicle in its class to earn a NHTSA (National Highway Traffic and Safety Association) 5-star Overall Vehicle Score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety! The Accord Sedan also earned this rating, but the Accord Coupe was the only one its class to be award the 5-star rating.

“This is a big deal,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda. “To be the only one at anything is a big deal, but for the 2013 Honda Accord Coupe to be the only coupe that earned 5 stars for safety is a big accomplishment. Honda prides itself on designing and manufacturing safe vehicles. Hopefully, this will give people one more reason to take a look at the new Accord Coupe, besides its incredible performance.”

The 2013 Honda Accord Coupe earned the Overall award by garnering a 5-star rating in “each seating position in the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) front, side-barrier, and side-pole crash test categories, as well as a 5-star rollover rating.”

“The Honda comprehensive approach to vehicle safety is validated by these top-level safety ratings,” said Art St. Cyr , vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “The 2013 Honda Accord truly excels in all areas, delivering the best overall safety ratings, while also providing exhilarating performance, outstanding comfort and top-class fuel economy.”

According to the press release: “Beginning with the 2013 Honda Accord, Honda is applying the second generation of the Honda Advanced Compatibility Engineering(ACEII) body structure to its models. This reinforced frontal structure further enhances frontal crash energy management through a wider range of offset and oblique collision modes.”

This is in addition to other Honda safety innovations like the LaneWatch technology that allows drivers to better see their blind spot.

2013 Honda Accord Beats Out 2013 Nissan Altima

Culturemap.com did a great side-by-side comparison of the 2013 Honda Accord and 2013 Nissan Altima. It’s one of the best comparisons I’ve seen because 1) it includes lots of pictures 2) it’s a slide show where the points for and against each are short and sweet.

We will skip the tit-for-tat and get you straight to the point: “The Altima and Accord are two familiar faces in a changing sedan world. Both are excellent all-rounders, but the Honda model wins this one—a combination of smoothness, functionality, and greater efficiency put the more business-like Accord ahead.”

That’s right, the 2013 Honda Accord beats out the 2013 Nissan Altima.

Ok, now for the details and highlights:

  • The Nissan Altima has a spacious trunk at 15.4 cubic feet…but the Honda Accord is even bigger with 15.8 cubic feet.
  • “The killer feature of the Accord is LaneWatch, a camera aimed at the passenger side of the car that shows the car’s blind spot on the screen in the center. It works brilliantly because it’s so intuitive—flick the right turn signal, and the screen illuminates with a wide-angle view of the space beyond your normal field of vision.”
  • “The Altima has a ludicrously terrible turning radius—hope that you never have to make a U-turn.” If you have to hope you never need to make a U-turn, that doesn’t sound like an “all-purpose” vehicle.
  • The Honda Accord has an EPA-rating of 21/34 mpg (the Altima has an EPA-rating of 22/30)
  • The Honda Accord’s 3.5 liter V6 engine is noticeably smoother.

Check out the complete slideshow HERE for all the details about why the 2013 Honda Accord is better than the 2013 Nissan Altima.

Green Car Journal Names Honda’s ECO Asist as Top 10 Green Technology

Honda’s “Ecological Drive Assist System,” ECO Assist for short, was named to Green Car Journal’s  list of top 10 green technology’s of 2013.

According to this article, “Honda said its ECO Assist technology can help drivers develop driving habits that enhance fuel efficiency by observing the speedometer background’s response to driving practices. Fuel-saving behaviors like smooth acceleration and braking make the meter glow green. Less fuel-efficient driving habits will cause the meter glow blue-green, while aggressive starts and stops that consume extra fuel cause the meter to glow blue.”

Honda hopes that using the ECO Assist technology will help drivers develop more fuel efficient driving habits over the long term.

“Honda is really thinking ahead with the ECO Assist technology,” said John Clough, sales manager at Northwest Honda dealership in Bellingham. “Not only does the vehicle itself have technology that reduces emissions and use less fuel, but it’s also helping people become more fuel efficient in the way they drive. It’s really revolutionary.”

Honda is hoping the visual nature of the technology will be easy to use and really make a difference.

“Honda developed the driver guidance and driver feedback functions of ECO Assist to help drivers improve their fuel economy, and in turn, to also benefit our environment,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “The visual nature of the technology is intended to help drivers improve their efficient driving skills by making it a more fun and rewarding experience.”

Honda is honored to be given this award by the Green Car Journal for its ground breaking technology.

“Honda’s ECO Assist system was selected as a Green Car Technology Award finalist for its innate ability to help drivers enhance their fuel efficiency,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and www.CarsOfChange.com. “In an era of increased demands on environmental performance from consumers and government alike, we wanted to highlight the innovative technologies like ECO Assist that make their incredible achievements possible.”

Honda’s ECO Assist technology is available on the 2013 Honda Civic, 2013 Honda CR-V, and the 2013 Honda Accord.

Honda Accord Coupe is like “Scrappy, Jaw-Snapping Tasmanian Devil,” Ferrari

While I have yet to personally drive a Honda Accord Coupe, the reviews (like the one HERE) have made it the only car I have ever dreamed about. Yes, reviews like this one have literally made the Honda Accord Coupe the car of my dreams…and I can’t even drive stick (although, I guess I can in my dreams).

From the sounds of this review the Honda Accord Coupe is also the car of this guy’s dreams.

“The i-VTEC V-6 doesn’t produce crazy torque (252 pound- feet), and its horsepower, at 278, is modest. Yet there’s an inherent rubber-band elasticity that keeps stretching into the higher rpms until you’re not sure what will snap first, it or you. There’s that moment when I’ve got the coupe at redline and I feel like the entire vehicle is just going to take off and launch into the sky.”

That’s been a theme from automotive critics: while the torque and horsepower numbers aren’t overly impressive on paper, when combined with the Honda Accord Coupe’s light weight and design, it creates an unquantifiable “feeling which isn’t mild mannered at all. It’s exuberant and free-wheeling.”

“The Honda Accord Coupe is so fun to drive,” said Bobby Maynard, new car manager at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “The writer of this review is right, the Honda Civic tends to be more for college kids or younger adults and the Accord is more for families. But the Coupe is the perfect blend of the two. We could probably say the sum is better than its parts in this case, if performance and fun is what you care most about.”

It’s not very often a mainstream brand like Honda gets compared to luxury brands like Ferrari and consumers get the benefit because it starts at only $33,000.

A car that performs like a Ferrari, gets 28 mpg, and only costs $33,000? Yes, please.

Not only does the Honda Accord Coupe look cooler than most cars, it is also a “unicorn” because it can come as a manual transmission.

“I’ve always loved a stick in a Honda, but these days they are an utter rarity, with 99 percent of Accord sedans sold as automatics. Only nine percent of the coupes are equipped with three pedals. Which is a shame, because a Honda i-VTEC engine under full assault (and pushed into the redline by a manual) is as unique and special as the rumble of a 5.0-liter V-8 mated to a Ford Mustang or the wailing keen from a mid-engine Ferrari. A quality and timbre all of its own.”

For your opportunity to test drive the Honda Accord Coupe (and why wouldn’t you?) and hopefully drive it home (and why wouldn’t you at only $33,000), stop by Sims Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Northwest Honda dealership today.

2013 Honda Accord Impresses Consumer Reports

The 2013 Honda Accord has received the much sought after blessing of Consumer Reports, the very respected consumer watchdog organization. ConsumerReports.org stated that Honda has met the expectations (and pressure) of redesigning the ever in-demand Accord with the 2013 Honda Accord. While the praise of the 2013 Honda Accord in this article by Consumer Reports (based on their “brief stint” when the car first came out in September) is somewhat reserved, it is nonetheless positive.

According to Consumer Reports’ initial review, “The Accord should certainly hold its own in both the marketplace, and barring unforeseen surprises, in our Ratings.”

Even better, in this article written a couple months later, Consumer Reports said Honda “nailed” the redesign of the Accord (and also blasts some other new sedans like the 2013 Subaru Legacy).

“The new Accord is roomy, nice to drive, well equipped, and very fuel efficient.”

Here are a few of the highlights that Consumer Reports say are improved in the newest edition of the Accord:

  • Steering is better and more responsive
  • Road noise is decreased
  • The continuously variable transmission (CVT) is well integrated
  • All trims come standard with USB connection, Bluetooth and “most impressively,” a backup camera
  • Upper trims come with forward-collision technology , lane departure warning system, and a camera/screen to help you see your passenger side blind spot (LaneWatch blind-spot camera system)
  • Competitive pricing: the four cylinder LX model starts at just $23,270.

The good news from Consumer Reports doesn’t stop there. “Inside, you are treated to one of the best driving positions available, comfortable seats, and terrific visibility.”

So, don’t just take it from us. Take it from the consumer advocates and Consumer Reports: the 2013 Honda Accord is the best new family sedan with room for everyone, handling to be jealous of, technology out the tailpipe, and gas mileage that leads its class.

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealerships for you chance to take a 2013 Honda Accord for a test drive!
