Honda Accord Hybrid Arriving in October!

So you might already know this, but we saw this brief article and got all excited about the arrival of the Honda Accord Hybrid in October to Honda dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, and Sims Honda.

“We are extremely excited about the Honda Accord Hybrid,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “We have seen a rise in demand for hybrid vehicles. People really want Honda to offer more in this area because they know Honda and they trust Honda. They especially trust the Accord, so for the Accord to offered as a hybrid, we expect it to do really well.”

According to this article, “In the Hybrid application, Honda rates the Accord at 4.8 l/100 km in the city and 5.2 on the highway. This time around, however, the electric motor will be mated to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, unlike the previous Accord Hybrid, which saw a V6 instead.”

We are so excited.

Eeeeek! :)

Review: Honda CR-V is Fun, Functional

We love the Honda CR-V. Turns out, we aren’t the only ones.

Check out the first paragraph of this review, “The all-new, fourth-generation Honda CR-V debuted late last year with upscale styling, excellent fuel efficiency, and a host of standard convenience features, making it one of the most fun and functional compact SUVs in America. The CR-V returns for 2013 as an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK and is distinguished by a NHTSA 5-star Overall Vehicle Score. Along the way, it has also earned awards from Edmunds.com, Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com and J.D. Power and Associates.”

Yeah. That pretty much sums it up.

But there’s more.

Here are the highlights:

  • Body: “aggressive and aerodynamic”, lightweight suspension
  • Interior: “The interior of the 2013 Honda CR-V combines a sedan-like driving position with abundant comfort and convenience features, and standout utility and versatility. The CR-V’s “small on the outside, big on the inside” packaging is the key to its appeal. The roomy 5-passenger seating layout provides plenty of space to stretch out, front and rear, and there’s abundant storage, including a large center console.” Also the 60/40 easy fold-down seats for bigger loads.
  • Safety: “The CR-V has been named a TOP SAFETY PICK (the highest rating possible) by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The rating recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting vehicle occupants involved in front, side and rear crashes.”
  • Power: “All CR-V models are powered by a 2.4-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower and 163 lb-ft. of torque.”

Stop by Sims Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Northwest Honda today so you can take the new Honda CR-V out for a test drive!

Honda Recalls Honda Fit Hatchbacks

Honda announced that it is voluntarily recalling Honda Fit Hatchbacks from the 2012 and 2013 model years. The recall affects about 48,000 vehicles in the United States.

This is expansion of the recall issued in April. The total number of vehicles affected since that announcement is 91,000.

According to this article, “The vehicles need a software update to the vehicle’s electronic stability control system, Honda said in a statement.”

“If you have any questions or concerns, please call us,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “Driver and passenger safety is the most important thing to us, so we want to make sure that all vehicles are functioning properly. Of course, any problem will be fixed for free to the customer.”

2013 Honda Accord Named Best New Sedan Under $25,000 by Kelly Blue Book

Kelley Blue Book and editors at KBB.com announced that the 2013 Honda Accord is the best all-around sedan. At same time, KBB.com also announced the 2013 Honda Civic is the best new compact car. We can’t really add much to what the news release said, so here it is in it’s entirety.

I guess we could add, Woo hoo!

“The 2013 Honda Accord and Civic were named to KBB.com’s list of the 10 Best New Sedans Under $25,000. The Honda Accord was the top ranked vehicle on the list of new vehicles introduced in 2013 compiled by the auto experts at KBB.com. The Civic was the highest rated compact car on the list.

“Nothing beats the value Accord and Civic offer customers” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of auto operations at American Honda. “Both models deliver on all fronts – value, performance, fuel efficiency, top safety ratings and a wide array of standard features – all at a competitive price point.”

“As the top ranked model on the list, the Accord was recognized by the editors of KBB.com for its sophisticated styling, excellent driving performance and innovative features, like the available LaneWatch™ blind spot display. Additionally, Accord earns industry-leading safety scores, having been rated a TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and distinguished by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score1.

“While other mid-size cars have threatened its dominance, now we can definitively say that the Accord is back on top, with the completely overhauled 2013 model hitting No. 1 on our list of the ’10 Best Sedans Under $25,000′,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. “The latest Honda Accord is as refined as any previous edition, but with a newfound sense of sporty style and cool new technologies that are as user-friendly as the car itself.”

Honda CR-V Rated One of Europe’s Safest Vehicles

While we try to keep things local (or at least national) on the BlogHonda blog, we also like to brag about the accolades given to Honda vehicles overseas. It reminds us that Honda is a globally recognized brand for its excellence, safety, and reliability.

Like this article that tells about how the Honda CR-V has been rated one of the safest vehicles in Europe by Europe’s vehicle safety organization, NCAP. It was just given a 5-star rating! (Five stars is good in anyone’s book, right?!)

The rating was based on the following items:

  • occupant protection
  • child protection
  • pedestrian protection
  • availability of driving aids

One thing that stuck out to me in reviewing these was “pedestrian protection.” Here in the United States, I don’t think we worry too much about way of protecting pedestrians that may get struck by a vehicle. I’d be interested to learn about that and how we can better protect pedestrians in the U.S.

“The new CR-V’s top safety rating reflects Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety. Honda’s commitment to safety is embodied by the term ‘Safety for Everyone; safety for drivers, but also safety for passengers, pedestrians and occupants of all vehicles. Honda’s car-to-car crash test facility at the Tochigi R&D plant analyses impacts between models of different sizes and weights and develops solutions to mitigate injuries for both passengers and pedestrians.”

2012 Honda Civic Gets Praise from MotorWeek

Much has been written about why the 2012 Honda Civic was redesigned so quickly. Like this blogger, some say it was because it was “so bad.” However, bloggers like him seem to miss the point that it was still the best selling compact car in the U.S. last year. And usually consumers know the difference between bad and good cars.

That being said, expectations were set high for the 2012 Honda Civic and some critics were disappointed. However, the folks at MotorWeek were not as evidenced by this video calling the 2012 Honda Civic energy smart and stating it is “excellence evolved.”

This critic notes that while the actual size of the car was smaller, the interior of the 2012 Honda Civic actually grew, among other positive features, including incredible gas mileage that the Honda Civic is renowned for. While the 2013 Honda Civic is an incredible redesign, the 2012 Honda Civic is still available at many Honda dealerships and, because of that quick redesign, available at an even better value.

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda to see if there are any great deals on the 2012 Honda Civic…new or used!

Honda Insight is “Engineering Marvel”

When you think hybrid vehicle, do you think top speed of 112 mph? What about 0-60 mph in 10.6 seconds?

Thanks to the Honda Insight, you can.

Generally, we don’t come across too many articles about the less publicized Honda Insight, Honda’s pioneering hybrid vehicle. So we were really impressed by this one that stated it was a hybrid with “a little NSX” in it.

Here’s what you may want to know: “…the Insight was, and remains, an engineering marvel. The issue with hybrids is always the weight of the batteries, right? Honda made the Insight’s body from aluminium so its kerb weight was just 850kg. Less weight means less power is required and greater efficiency results.”

And: “Powertrain specs mean we best talk performance. With a fully-charged battery, Car&Driver in the US timed an Insight from 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds, a second faster than Autocar’s time for the second-gen Insight tested in 2009. Taking times with a 50 per cent depleted battery and no IMA assist at all, the Insight’s average 0-60mph time was 12 seconds. No fireball, but that’s still quicker than today’s crop of city cars. Top speed, no doubt thanks to its 0.25Cd, is 112mph.”

Power? On a hybrid? Mind blown.

Of course, here at Honda we’ve always known what a fantastic hybrid the Honda Insight was and has become. If you want a hybrid with some personality and power, be sure to stop by Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda today to take one for a test drive!

Honda Civic Si Transformed Into a Race Car: Video

We were intrigued by this short video that transforms your regular 2012 Honda Civic Si into a race car on the biggest stage. Because of the length of the video, I thought it would be a relatively easy process.

Well, it’s not exactly easy.

But it isvery interesting. And I’m not even a take-the-car-apart-and-put-it-back-together kind of gal.

If you want to see how a regular Honda Civic Si goes from normal commuter car to racing machine, check out this short documentary. It’s pretty cool.
