1,000 Honda Fits Recalled

Honda announced that it is voluntarily recalling 1,038 Honda Fits from the 2013 model year.

According to this article on Edmunds.com, the recall is in regards to an issue with the right driveshaft.

“During production of certain right driveshafts, it is possible that a heat-treatment process was not properly applied, resulting in the driveshaft being weaker than intended,” the company said in a statement. “As a result, in certain cases a weaker driveshaft may be more likely to fail due to the torque applied when the vehicle is accelerating from a stop.

“A broken right driveshaft will reduce the vehicle’s ability to move under its own power, which could contribute to a crash.”

No accidents or injuries have been reported.

If you are concerned about your vehicle, please do not hesitate to call Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda dealerships. Any vehicles that are affected by the recall will be repaired free of charge.

2013 Honda CR-V is Easy to Park, Sleek

We love hearing about the different reasons people adore the Honda CR-V, but this was a new one.

In this article at TruckTrend.com, focuses mostly on how wonderfully easy the Honda CR-V is park. Seriously! It seems a bit funny at first, but then I thought about my experiences or concerns about driver a vehicle bigger than a mid-sized sedan and parking is right at the top. Who wants to be embarrassed as they try to squeeze into a tiny, downtown parking spot? Or start panicking as they realize that all the room they THOUGHT they had only to start pulling in and realize the vehicle was making it much tighter than it should be?!

Certainly, we’ve all experienced that anxiety, which is why the focus on ease of parking in this article is relevant. Especially to those moms (and dads) who need a vehicle big enough to transport kids and lots of stuff, but not one so big that it makes it impossible to park unless you park yourself away from everyone else.

“The Honda CR-V tends to be the pick families; moms and dads who want a great car for moving the family around,” said Tony Carter, general manager at Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “Families need a good sized car, but not one that feels like a tank driving down Fairhaven or makes it impossible to shop at Bellis Fair around the holidays. This article actually does a really great job of describing an important aspect of why people love driving (and parking) the Honda CR-V.”

How great is the Honda CR-V’s “parkability?”

“The CR-V seems as if was born to park, squeezing into laughably tight, strip-mall spots; shoring up perfectly square to curbs; and swiftly maneuvering through one of Los Angeles’ massive 10-story, subterranean parking garages. You’d almost swear this was Honda’s top priority when conceptualizing the fourth generation of its small ute.”

Stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, or Apple Valley Honda to take the Honda CR-V for a test drive…and park!

Honda Accord is #1 in Retails Sales; Four Models Take Best-in-Class Awards

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Honda Accord was the best-selling car with individual American car buyers in 2013 and was joined by three other Honda models – the Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey – as retail sales leaders in their respective segments in 2013, according to new-vehicle registration data compiled by Polk, which was recently acquired by IHS. The Accord, built in Marysville, Ohio1, also had the No. 1 produced car in America in 2013.

U.S. Car Shoppers Propel Honda Accord to #1 in Retail Sales in 2013; Four Honda Models Take Best-in-Class Leadership based on Polk New-Vehicle Registrations

Cumulatively, the Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey posted retail sales of more than 1.11 million units in 2013, each earning the business of more than 300,000 individual American car buyers. Excluding full-size pickups, only one other model across the entire industry posted retail sales of more than 300,000 units in 2013.

“Our focus on retail sales to individual buyers has a direct correlation to the high resale value of Honda products, which is a key factor in the value proposition for our customers,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of automobile sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We want to thank car buyers for making four Honda vehicles America’s top choices, purchased one car at a time.”

Additional highlights from the Polk /IHS Automotive data included:

  • Honda’s 2013 retail sales rose 8.4 percent from year-ago totals to 1,332,576 Honda cars and light trucks
  • Individual sales to retail car buyers made up 98.1 percent of all American Honda sales in 2013, compared to an average of 81.7 percent for all other non-luxury vehicles
  • Accord retail sales in 2013 rose12.2 percent to 360,089
  • In addition to being retail sales leaders, both the Civic and CR-V ranked as the overall best-selling models in their respective segments for the third consecutive year, and both saw retail sales and registrations jump 8.2 percent in 2013
  • The Odyssey also captured an impressive 32.2 percent of the U.S. retail registrations for minivans in 2013, selling nearly 25,000 more vehicles than the nearest competitor in the segment

Honda has been named the Most Trusted Brand by Kelley Blue Book for two consecutive years (2012 and 2013) and the Best Value Brand by Automotive Lease Guide for six years in a row (2008 through 2013), in part due to the consistently high resale value of its products.

Honda Civic Sales Leave Toyota Corolla in the Dust

The Honda Civic was by far the best-selling compact vehicle in 2013 leaving all competition, including the second best-selling car, the Toyota Corolla.

The Honda Civic sold 336,180 units. Trailing pretty far behind as second-best is the Toyota Corolla with 302,180.

“People expect a pretty good competition between the Honda Civic and The Toyota Corolla,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda in Burlington. “But, according to the sales last year, there is NO competition. The Honda Civic is the clear winner with it’s new design and excellent gas mileages; it’s definitely the best compact car available.”

  • The redesigned Honda Civic was sixth (and there’s a good chance it will rise in the rankings this year)
  • The Honda CR-V was eighth

New Toyota Tacoma Recalled for Engine Flaw

Toyota announced that it is recalling the 2013-2014 Toyota Tacoma for a serious engine problem.

According to this article, “According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles may suffer from an engine flaw that could cause the Tacoma to stall in traffic — or worse.”

It’s a small number of vehicles affected by the recall built in couple months, less than 4,000 vehicles, but is a safety concern.

“The problem stems from improperly built valve springs in the Tacoma’s engine. Over time, wear and tear may cause the springs to break, and if that happens while a vehicle is being driven, the engine will stall, increasing the risk of an accident.”

Honda Teases the Future at Tokyo Auto Show

The Tokyo Auto Show, as one might imagine, is one of the most prestigious auto shows in the world. Honda reserved the most floor space to unveil 18 production models and a few other concept cars. All are wow-worthy.

While there is much to review with the production models and the concept cars, including the much-buzzed-about NSX, we won’t review all of it, but we thought this quote summed up nicely the current vehicles Honda is producing and the vehicles yet-to-come: ““I would like our customers around the world to feel the strong spirit of Honda. Please keep your expectations high for these two sports models. Now, future cars cannot simply be fast and cool. They also must not show any compromise in the area of environmental concerns,” said Takanobu Ito, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. president, chief executive officer and representative director.”

And not just the sport models. Honda also had on display its insanely successful and popular (on all accounts) 2014 Honda Accord series (gasoline, hybrid, hybrid plug-in, etc.).

Certainly the astounding-looking NSX and S660 concept vehicles got lots of buzz, but another one that got a lot of attention was the urban SUV, Vezel (which will go by a different name when it hits the U.S.)

According this article, “Another must-see at the show is the world premiere of the N-WGN, the fourth model of the N Series of mini-vehicles, as well as the world premiere of the planned production model of the second-generation Global Compact Series, which is based on the Urban SUV Concept that was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January.

“We believe that this new model will serve as a basic car for the future of mini-vehicles, N-WGN. The N-WGN is a mini-vehicle that balances everything at a high level, including spaciousness, safety and driving performance that go beyond those of conventional mini-vehicles and far exceed customer expectations,” said Sho Minekawa, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. senior managing officer and chief operating officer for regional sales operations.”

Undoubtedly the Tokyo Auto show is stirring up a lot of excitement in Honda and about Honda. We just can’t wait!

Business Insider: Toyota Corolla Cheaper and Not as Good As Honda Civic

The Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic have been forever-competitors. According to Business Insider, though, there is no competition with these new models: Honda Civic wins…unless your only consideration is price (the Toyota Corolla is $1,400 cheaper).

Consumer Reports called the Toyota Corolla “bland” and the Motor Trend wasn’t nearly as kinda saying, “The car remains more of an improvement for those who will only drive a Toyota than a real Civic- or Forte-challenger, even with those neat LED headlights and a well-tuned CVT.”

Comparatively, “In June, KBB named the 2013 Honda Civic the sixth best sedan under $25,000. The Corolla did not make the top ten.”

See, it’s not just us that thinks the Honda Civic is better than the “cheap” Toyota Corolla. Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda todayto take the new Honda Civic for a test drive!

105 Year Old California Driver Gifted a New Honda

The oldest driver in California, Edythe Kirchmaier, was given a new  2013 Honda Civic after her 1997 minivan began having mechanical problems. As an active philanthropist, passionate about her cause, Direct Relief, she needed a way to safely get to and from her charitable work.

Well, an anonymous Facebooker gave her more than a digital candle on her digital birthday cake. They gave her a car!

Maybe your first reaction was like mine, “Uh, I don’t think a 105 year old should be driving.” But, in her 86 year driving history, she has never had a traffic violation or accident. And the coolest part is she learned to drive on a Model T.

Ok, give the lady a new 2013 Honda Civic. Everyone deserves the safety and reliability of the new Honda Civic, especially someone who’s been driving that long without incident.

Happy Birthday!

2013 Honda CR-Z: The First Mainstream Sporty Hybrid

In this article, the writer proposes that the 2013 Honda CR-Z is the solution to those who want a sport vehicle (which Honda is known and loved for) and meeting the world’s requirement of more eco-friendly vehicles.

And it seems to be a slam dunk, home run, touchdown, and (insert your sports analogy here) because “…the CR-Z delivers a really cracking driving experience.”

What seems to make the Honda CR-Z so cracking? It “utilizes Macpherson-strut suspension at the front end over the more performance-oriented double-wishbone suspension, is packed with safety features and electronic aids and all, that, to the hardcore enthusiast, seemingly adulterates the driving experience.”

It also doesn’t hurt that the 2013 Honda CR-Z has a 130-hp engine, 144-volt lithium ion battery, increased torque, and Honda’s amazing 6-speed manual transmission.

“Honda’s manual transmissions have always been the best and the CR-Z’s six-speed self-shifter is sniper-rifle precise, a real joy to row through and feel the snickety-snick of the gears.”

And you don’t need to be worried about any kind of weird, hybrid drivability. In fact, “it drives just like a sports car.”

As with any Honda, you can also expect the best safety features. “As expected of any modern car, the CR-Z is loaded with safety features: six airbags up front with curtain bags that span the length of the cabin, ABS-EBD brakes with Brake Assist and Stability/Traction control as standard. There’s also a lot of small details such as the drilled aluminum pedals and aluminum shiftknob for the 6-speed manual, the slots on the front seats which technically mean you can sling in a couple of four-point clubman harnesses for some track time/amateur racing activities, and the LED daytime running lamps which give a touch of class and sophistication for this modern-day lightweight warrior.”

Check out the complete, raving article about the 2013 Honda CR-Z for more details about the first mainstream hybrid sports car!
