Skagit River Bridge Collapse Close to Home for Honda Dealerships

Here at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington, we got an up close and personal look at the Skagit River bridge collapse that took down both directions of I-5 just south Sims Honda in Burlington.

The sound of the failing metal of the bridge could be heard by many in the area working late that Thursday evening.

The affects of this major economic lifeline will be felt by many businesses in Skagit and Whatcom counties, including Sims Honda and Northwest Honda.

“Many business are concerned,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “Traffic has been really horrible on and off around here since it happened. And for good reason. This stretch of freeway to Canada is the fourth busiest in the nation. And, we’re concerned that locals aren’t going to want to venture out as much because of the traffic. It’s still early and only time will tell, but, hopefully, we can get the temporary bridge over the river soon and get things back to normal.”

At Northwest Honda in Bellingham there is a real concern that Canadian consumers may not want to come south of the border because of the headaches.

“The bridge collapse is about 30 minutes south of Bellingham, but many Canadians stop by on their way to shop other places in Mount Vernon, Marysville, and Seattle,” Tony Carter, general manager of Northwest Honda said. “Some might think it’s too big of a hassle, but we want to them to know that we’re open for business and it should be smooth sailing to get to and from Northwest Honda from Canada.”

We are here to tell you that Sims Honda and Northwest Honda are open for business and we are encouraging local consumers and consumers around the state to come by. A temporary bridge is set to be in place over the river by the middle of June and traffic flows should go back to normal. Until that time, there are a couple alternate routes to get to Sims Honda that are really not too long or complicated, so don’t be intimidated by reports you hear on the news!

If you have questions about our business or the best ways to get to Sims Honda or Northwest Honda, please do not hesitate to call us. We’ll be here.

Honda CR-Z is “Fun, Affordable”

The New York Daily News wrote this glowing review of the of the 2013 Honda CR-Z. Starting at less than $20,000, the Hybrid CR-Z is the most affordable hybrid on the market.

It is also the most fun to drive.

“With 2013′s CR-Z, Honda has decided to loosen up and make what is arguably the  most fun hybrid most people can afford to actually buy or lease. Why does the  CR-Z hold forth the promise of being a hybrid that appeals to driving  enthusiasts? For starters, it is the only hybrid on sale in America sporting a  six speed manual transmission.”

That’s right, the 2013 Honda CR-Z is available with a six speed manual transmission that really gives it a lot of kick. The Honda CR-Z is also available with the more hybrid standard CVT (continuously variable transmission) for those who want even better gas mileage…by sacrificing that fun factor.

“For 2013, the electrical motor’s output is now up 5kW, to 15 kW, due to a higher  powered lithium-ion battery pack. The CR-Z posts a combined output of 130 BHP at  6000 rpm and 140 lb-ft. of torque with the manual transmission. The CVT equipped  models can only muster 127 lb-ft. by comparison.”

It is also one of the greenest hybrids on the market.

“When people want a hybrid, they often think of the Toyota Prius first,” said Tod McLaughlin of Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “But just because it is one of the most well-known hybrids, doesn’t mean it’s the best.”

Did we mention that the Honda CR-Z gets 36/39 city/highway gas mileage?

“And with that great gas mileage you get performance!” McLaughlin said. “People think you have to sacrifice performance when you get a hybrid. With the 2013 Honda CR-Z, you do not.”

Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda in Bellingham, or Sims Honda in Burlington to take the new 2013 Honda CR-Z for a test drive to find out why it is the best, most affordable hybrid on the marketing.

“Honda LaneWatch is Awesome”

We LOVED this article that simultaneously mocks our reliance and desire for technology while praising the “awesome” Honda LaneWatch technology available on all trims of the 2013 Honda Accord.

According to the writer of this article, what technology don’t we need? Twitter available on our refrigerators as offered by Samsung (“I just got ice. #cold #drink #icerocks2013 #yourdrinkiswarmerthanmine“).

He also takes a hit on Toyota Infotainment system that allows you search for and buy movies tickets and also make dinner reservations while driving to pick up your date (ideally, you would’ve done that beforehand, but life happens). And for good reason. With many states passing laws outlawing handheld cell phones because they distract drivers, what part of searching for the perfect date movie and restaurant while speeding down the interstate sounds like a safe idea?

The writer lists several other good and bad technology examples but then he gets to his point: “I think Honda LaneWatch is Awesome.”

Honda LaneWatch technology works by using video to display your blindspot on the screen on your dash every time you flip your turn signal. So, as you indicate you are going to switch lanes, the screen in the dash shows you exactly what is around you so you can make a good decision (hopefully).

“I recently had a Honda Accord press car with LaneWatch, and I was so impressed by the feature that I didn’t use the passenger mirror once throughout the entirety of my time with the car. This is pretty cool: a camera that completely takes the place of a side-view mirror. Concept cars have teased the idea for years, but here I was actually experiencing it in a $25,000 Honda Accord!”

After his test drive, he admitted that he missed the technology: “Still, when used for its intended purpose, LaneWatch is tremendously helpful. The picture’s clear, it’s aimed exactly where you want, and – to help you decide if it’s safe to change lanes – it even displays three different on-screen lines: Green, Yellow, and BMW Driver…When I gave back the Accord and returned to my LaneWatch-less SUV, I began to realize just how much technology is missing from my life.”

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealerships today so you can take the 2013 Honda Accord for a test drive and find out for yourself why Honda LaneWatch technology is truly “awesome.”

Honda to Build Acura NSX in Ohio

Honda is reinforcing its dedication to American industry by announcing it will build the new Acura NSX in Ohio.

Why Ohio? According to Hidenobu Iwata, president and CEO of Honda of American Manufacturing, it’s because of the high quality of workers.

“It’s about people,” Iwata said at Tuesday’s press event. “The location of this facility is in the midst of one of the greatest collections of engineering talent in the world.”

What’s the big deal about building the Acura NSX? “Gov. John Kasich commented that the NSX looks like the kind of car James Bond would drive; the NSX will be exclusive, powerful and sexy, with a price tag to match (exact pricing hasn’t been announced, but those who have to ask, probably can’t afford it).”

With more than 13,700 employees in Ohio, Honda is bolstering its presence and showing consumers that many Honda vehicles are truly ‘made in America.’

Does it make a difference to you whether a car or a Honda is made in America?

2012 Honda CR-V Wins Award From British Website

The 2012 Honda CR-V has won an impressive website award across the pond!

The 2012 Honda CR-V won the Honest John “Most Popular 4×4″ award given by the expert auto website honestjohn.co.uk. This is the second year in a row the Honda CR-V has won this specific award from the website.

Dan Harrison, editor of honestjohn.co.uk, commented: “The 2012 Honda CR-V picks up where its predecessor left off – the previous generation model won this award last year and impressively the latest version has picked up the 2013 award. Refined and upmarket it has all the qualities to be a big seller in the SUV market and as our figures prove, users of honestjohn.co.uk are certainly showing plenty of interest. The addition of the new 1.6 i-DTEC engine will surely only increase its appeal.”

The Honest John awards are chosen by the people, for the people. Here’s what the press release had to say about it: “The honestjohn.co.uk awards aren’t awarded by judges or a panel, instead they come from the best experts of all: the website users. The main awards recognise and reward the cars and vans that users search for most on the site. Put simply, the reviews which create the most interest among honestjohn.co.uk users are the winners. The data to measure this is taken from Google Analytics and calculates the number of page views each review has had over the previous 12 months from April 2012 to April 2013.”
While we realize that not very many of our readers have heard of the Honest John awards, we think any award like this is a good one and thought it was a great opportunity to talk about how awesome the 2012 Honda CR-V is and how so many people just love it.
You don’t have to go overseas to get your very own 2012 Honda CR-V, though. Oh, no. Just stop by Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee, Northwest Honda in Bellingham, or Sims Honda in Burlington to take one for a test drive and find out why it’s on the top of so many lists!

Honda May Enter Airplane Market Soon

Honda is applying its practical automotive design to small jet airplanes and may be soon jetting individuals off into the wild blue yonder.

According to this Wall Street Journal blog article, “Motor Co.’s aircraft unit said it began flight testing of its fifth HondaJet aircraft. The company said the test is a significant step toward FAA certification of the light-jet design, which is designed for business and personal use.”

Honda has been developing a HondaJet for decades and seems to be closer than ever to its sky-high goal. The HondaJet still has standards and safety tests to go through, but with the most recent model of the HondaJet completing a successful test flight, things are headed in the right direction (up).

“An aircraft’s first flight is an important and emotional milestone,” said Honda Aircraft Co. president and chief executive Michimasa Fujino. “This is especially true for our fifth FAA-conforming HondaJet,” he said.

While the $4.5 million price tag is definitely more than your average Honda automobile, it seems like a pretty reasonable deal and HondaJet promises to have better gas mileage than other light aircraft, which is important in keeping jet ownership costs down (wouldn’t want to have start charging yourself ridiculous baggage fees like major airlines do in order to compensate for the price of fuel). What do you think? Would you purchase a HondaJet for you business? Would your ride in one or do small aircraft make you nervous no matter the maker?

With Honda, There is No Fear

We are always looking for interesting commercials (hey, we are human and will be the first ones to admit that it’s more fun to watch videos than read articles) and this one definitely caught our attention. It’s a Honda motorbike advertisement for France (although the announcer is speaking English…in a very block-buster movie sort of way) and it is…intense.

First of all, it’s just over two minutes long and it doesn’t feel like two minutes. You really feel like you just watched a trailer for a major motion picture.

Second of all…it’s just intense.

For the first part of the commercial, I thought it was some sort of Dracula-themed commercial but it turned out to be much less cheesy and a lot more real with the close ups of the motorbike riders. Not to mention I was transfixed on the overhead shot of that HUGE race start on the beach (how did they get those words so big and perfect on the sand? Totally kidding…)

Take a look at this very different kind of Honda commercial. It’s not about hopes and dreams and leap lists…it’s about fear.

2013 Honda CR-V Commercial Touches Our Hearts

2013 Honda CR-V

Occasionally we write about Honda commercials that are usually entertaining or funny. But this time, we are writing about one that touched our hearts. Why?

Because of grandma.

We LOVE this commercial of a grown grandson driving his grandmother on what appears to be a short road trip to see where grandma grew up, an item on his “leap list.”

We think this tenderhearted commercial speaks to us because we all know how important and special grandmas are. It’s also touching that this young man made it a point to go see where his beloved grandma grew up. And chose the 2013 Honda CR-V to take them to check off an item on his leap list.

Which brings us to this: what is on your leap list? If you had a 2013 Honda CR-V, what are some things you would do that you can’t do with your current vehicle?

2013 Honda Civic is Safest Small Car on the Road

The 2013 Honda Civic the only compact car to receive the top safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

According to this article, “The 2013 Civic Sedan recently received the top 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score in the NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), and the highest possible rating of Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, including a top score of Good in the new small overlap frontal collision test. Honda said it leads all automakers with every one of its tested model year 2013 vehicles earning a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.”

To repeat, the 2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe are the only small cars to receive these prestigious safety ratings.

“Some people get a little anxious about owning and driving small cars because there are so many BIG cars on the road and there’s a real concern about safety,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “However Honda’s dedication to safety shines through with these new safety awards for the Honda Civic. Drivers don’t need to be worry about their safety when they’re driving a Honda Civic!”

Honda reinforced its frame, which allowed it pass the new off-set frontal crash that simulates a collision on the front corners of the car.

“Car shoppers cannot find a small car with higher overall safety ratings than the 2013 Honda Civic,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “Safety ratings leadership across product lines is a fundamental part of not only our strategic business plan, but also our philosophy as a company.”

If you want the safest small car on the market, stop by Sims Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Northwest Honda dealership today to take the 2013 Honda Civic or Honda Civic coupe for a test ride!

Honda CR-Z Logs More than 100,000 Miles With No Problems

One business in London is using all Honda hybrid vehicles to power its fleet, including one Honda CR-Z that logged more than 100,000 in three years without skipping a beat!

Renewable Solutions UK designs and installs renewable energy systems all over the English countryside and only uses Honda hybrids like the CR-Z, Insight and Jazz to get business done. Altogether, the hybrid fleet has traveled half a million miles since 2010!

“Honda hybrids are a perfect fit for our business, with the efficiency of battery power and the many environmental and financial benefits this brings,” said Mike Lowes, Managing Director of Renewable Solutions UK.  “The fleet has worked very hard, every day, for both short and long journeys, but we’ve only ever had to pay for standard servicing and wear and tear costs, and no major breakdowns. They just keep going without skipping a beat!”

And in a testament to the great Honda service model, each hybrid in the fleet was bought from the same dealership because they trust the Honda brand and service!

“We have complete free rein in what we buy and where we buy it from, so the fact that we stick with Honda is testament to the trust we have in the brand. Honda hybrids are a reliable, no-compromise solution to our needs, and Greenacre have offered us great customer service and value for money.”
