2014 Honda Civic Adds Apple iOS Mirroring

Do you love Honda? Do you love Apple? Well, now you can combine your two loves with the 2014 Honda Civic as the first Honda to include iOS mirroring.

According to this article, “This iOS mirroring feature will link your car to your iOS handset closer than ever before. Customers who purchase a 2014 Civic will be able to control their iPhone or iPad using a multitouch display built into the car’s dash.”

“This is just another example of how Honda is incorporating technology that people use every day,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington.

A recent blog here on BlogHonda.com also noted that the 2014 Honda Civic would be the first Honda to offer HD Radio, real-time traffic news, and more.

“The 2014 Honda Civic, arriving here in just a couple weeks will be one of the biggest things to hit the market next year,” Hofkamp said. “People are going to love it.”

Mark your calendars and be sure to stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealership to find out how the 2014 Honda Civic can meet your technological needs in a vehicle.

2014 Honda Civic First Honda to Offer HD Radio, Available December

The 2014 Honda Civic will available at Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, and Northwest Honda in December and when it lands it will be with a new special feature:  HERE mapping service, the BTC and HD Radio technology.

These services will be offered subscription free and will allow drivers to access real-time traffic information, construction alerts and traffic incidents, and even album art.

According to this article, “Jeff Jury, COO, iBiquity Digital said: “Honda is showing real leadership in bringing the benefits of the HD Radio digital data pipe to their vehicles. Subscription-free real-time traffic, and advanced HD Radio features will now be available in the Civic, one of America’s most popular vehicles. This is another great example of a leading automaker integrating our digital terrestrial technology as part of a connected vehicle strategy. Honda and the entire automotive industry are adopting the latest HD Radio audio and data features very quickly driving the transition of over-the-air AM and FM broadcasting to a digital future.”

“We are excited about the 2014 Honda Civic, but with this announcement about it being the first Honda to have HD Radio, we are even more excited,” said Tony Carter, general manager at Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “I think people are really going to love that real-time traffic information. Honda Debuts Fuel Cell Concept Car

At the L.A. Auto Show earlier this week, Honda unveiled its hydrogen fuel-cell concept car. The product model will be available in the U.S. in two years!

According to this article, “The Honda FCEV Concept hints at Honda’s future direction for fuel-cell vehicles,” said Tetsuo Iwamura, president and CEO of American Honda Motor Co.  “While this car is a concept, it points toward a very real future.”

As futuristic and far off as “hydrogen fuel-cell” technology sounds, we’re excited to have more options of the types of cars we can choose from…especially ones that will save us money on gas and give fabulous range.

“Like the concept, the production version will seat five passengers and have a range of more than 300 miles, Honda officials said. Both are improvements from the four-seat and 240-mile range of Honda’s Clarity, a fuel-cell vehicle that it has made in limited numbers and leased for testing to about two dozen drivers in California.”

What do you think? Are you excited about hydrogen fuel-cell technology? Would you drive one of these cars?

“We think this is just another example of Honda giving drivers what they want,” said Tod McLaughlin, general manager at Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. “Offering SiriusXM radio in more vehicles simply gives people more options and a higher tech ride; that’s what most people want.”

Back the to the article, “American Honda first introduced the satellite radio service in 2003. The recent expansion is part of an agreement between Honda and Sirius XM Radio to extend their partnership through January 2020. Ladies, Would A Car Like This Help or Hurt?

We see lots of crazy car gadgets and designs, but this one from the Daily Life Hacks Facebook Page, certainly got our attention. While we don’t know what kind of car it is, the sparkly blow dryer (and microphone?!) seems to suggest some kind of feminine compact vehicle.

The dash is filled with an array of makeup (eye shadows, powders, foundations, sticks, and brushes), as well as a surprisingly thorough set of brushes, which may be hard to grab and use whilst driving.

Obviously this is a terrible idea and, hopefully, one that everyone realizes as such. Having gotten stuck behind a woman on I-405 who was “just” trying to apply her mascara, this little set up is actually pretty terrifying. If I hadn’t seen her putting her makeup on, I would’ve thought she was drunk or having a seizure because of the way she was speeding up and slowing down.

What do you think? Does this Daily Hack have any redeeming quality?

Honda VTEC Engine Explained

Much has been written about Honda’s innovative VTEC Engine.

Honda’s VTEC system is almost as famous as the brand itself, steeped in many myths from the world of motorsport, street racing, motor bikes and even supercars. VTEC is synonymous with the Civic Type R, the screaming S2000, hints at the NSX and is a mainstay in their fight sales. But what is it?”

That’s an excellent question, that maybe you haven’t asked yourself before, but now you are. Instead of trying to shorten it up and explain it to you, check out the entire article HEREcomplete with a couple videos.

Honda “Hands” Create with the Imagination

We loved this Honda “Hands” commercial that has been called “fabulous.” We love everything innovative and creative and this commercial perfectly illustrates these two Honda characteristics.

Watch the commercial HERE and be taken on a whirl-wind of Honda products made at the “hands” of creative ingenuity.

Wireless Vehicle to Vehicle Braking Technology: Video

I’ll be honest. I just got into a fender bender this past week. Totally my fault. They’re building a new house right on the lake we pass on the way to our local YMCA and I was admiring the progress of the beautiful home when traffic stopped in front of me. I slammed on my brakes, but, alas, it was not enough and I hit the car in front me.

Now I have to go without my car until July 9.

Do I wish that all cars had vehicle-to-vehicle braking technology? Why, yes. Yes, I do. It would’ve saved me a whole lot of grief the past few days and next couple weeks.

This article and video highlight the basics of this technology currently being tested in Europe. Basically what it does is allows the cars to talk to each and alert the driver of the cars if a collision seems imminent. In my case, snap me out of wondering how much that lake-side home cost and get me to notice that the light had turned red. True, in order for it to work, all cars would have to be equipped with the technology, but we are always adding safety technology to our cars and think of all the collisions it could prevent!

What do you think? Does this technology look like a good idea or just a waste of money?

Honda Accord Hybrid Set Up to Take Down Competition

There has been a lot written about the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid set to land at dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, and Northwest Honda in October of this year.

We LOVE this brief set up of the battle among the hybrids. Basically, the 2014 Honda Accord getting almost 50 miles per gallon will be enough to overtake the competition and become the hybrid supreme.

Well, according to this article it is.

“We are extremely excited to get the 2014 Honda Accord here at Sims Honda,” said Keith Hofkamp of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “The market has been warming up to hybrid technology more and more as the technology gets better and people begin to get used to it. Combine better hybrid technology with the dependability and reliability of the Honda Accord brand and no doubt it will be a top seller everywhere. Who doesn’t want 50 miles to the gallon?!”

What do you think? Will getting 49 mpg (far more than other hybrid competitors) be enough to make the 2014 Honda Accord the top hybrid?
