The Benefits to Buying a Honda with the Navigation System Included

The Benefits to Buying a Honda with the Navigation System Included

If you decide to buy a new vehicle from Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda then it is worth considering opting to have a model with GPS built-in to the dashboard.  It’s possible to have fully-integrated GPS with the following ranges; Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-Z, CRV, Element, Fit, Insight, Odsyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline.  But why pay a small bit extra for GPS?  There are a number of reasons, both economical benefits and also green-living factors.  Here’s why you should consider this added extra.

No Need to Buy a Standalone GPS

If you have the Honda Navigation System then there is no need to spend money on a separate device such as a Garmin or TomTom.  In addition to that, the GPS will be fully integrated into your dashboard with no messy wires visible, plus some models even come with a rear-view camera installed so you can get in and out of those tricky small spaces a lot easier.

Using a GPS Device Saves You Money

Recent research conducted in Germany monitored the driving habits over a year of one thousand people.  Half of them used a GPS, and the remaining half relied on instinct and road knowledge.  The ones using a GPS satellite navigation product on average made the following savings over a 12 month period:

  • Overall drove shorter distances
  • They spent less time driving and behind the wheel
  • Their fuel efficiency was increased by a factor 12%
  • Gas consumption fell from a high of 8.3 to 7.3 liters every 100km
  • This better fuel economy equated to a .91 ton reduction their C02 emissions annually per driver
  • They manage to reduce their annual driving distances 2,500km for each driver

The reason these savings are made in both the wallet and environment is because a GPS like the Honda Navigation System will always try to route you the quickest or shortest route possible.  The new Honda Navigation units also come with Real-Time Traffic alerts.  This means you will know about a traffic jam before you reach it, and the GPS will re-route you to avoid it.  Traffic jams are the number one place for high fuel consumption and gas costs due to the “stop-start” nature of the driving style adopted.

For more information on Honda Navigation System updates and the savings you can make with the Honda dashboard devices please visit:  Also please make sure that you speak to you local dealer about the price options available should you wish to opt for the system in your new Honda purchase.

Man Close to 1,000,000 Mile Goal in His Honda Civic

Man Close to 1,000,000 Mile Goal in His Honda Civic

The only thing bringing down this 2006 Honda Civic with 750,000 miles on it? A deer.

“I’ll keep driving this car ’till I hit another deer. After that it’s getting put up in the garage where I’ll start rebuilding it from the ground up as my daily driver,” Paul Habib, Jr. said.

Habib, Jr. purchased his beloved Honda Civic USED (whoa!) in 2007 and promptly started putting the miles on. In his job as a salesman, he puts about 3,600 per week! After about five years, that car now has more than 750,000 miles on it. Habib, Jr.’s goal is to reach 1 million nukes using owner/mechanic heroics, planning and luck (mostly by missing the ‘kamikaze’ deer that jump across the roads as he’s driving around Kentucky).

“The measures Habib, Jr. goes to to maintain and upkeep his Honda Civic are amazing,” said Rich Elsensohn, Service and Parts Manager at Apple Valley Honda dealership in Wenatchee. “Obviously he knows a thing or two about cars that the average person doesn’t…I mean, he took the engine out of his car when he thought it died…but he also doesn’t let things like not having a garage keep him from taking care of it himself. He’s devoted to his Honda and that’s just great!”

Hondas are known for being long-lasting and taking care of their owners, especially when their owners take care of them! The story of Habib, Jr. speaks to the fact that certified used Hondas and the quality pre-owned vehicles sold by Honda can serve their owners well…really well.

“We have people bringing their cars in here with hundreds of thousands of miles on it,” Elsensohn said. “They love their Hondas. Not only that, but people aren’t as afraid to buy a certified used Honda because they know they last for such a long time if you take care of them.”

Habib, Jr.’s (unfinished) story isn’t just a story about the 8th generation Honda Civic that he ‘fell in love with,’ it’s also the story of how loyal Honda customers are! There are whole web sites dedicated to high-mileage Hondas and why would any drive their car that long unless they loved it?

And we appreciate our loyal customers right back.

“We love our loyal Honda customers,” says Alicia Jones, Honda’s Public Relations Manager. “Stories like these are a testament to how people have come to count on their Hondas for more than 50 years to get them to where they need to go.”

Even if you’re not looking to put 1 million miles on a car, a new or certified used Honda is a great investment…because you know you could put 1 million miles on it if you really wanted to. Head to Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda or Sims Honda today to find the Honda that will take you 1 million miles.

Honda Has Record-Breaking Month for Production in US

Honda Has Record-Breaking Month for Production in US

The Honda manufacturers are burning the midnight oil in North America and the United States (actually, probably not oil since their plants are the cleanest automobile plants in the world)! In January, Honda manufactured almost 150,000 units in North America, a 33.8% increase from January 2011 and all-time high for any month. Honda plants in the United States alone manufactured more than 108,000 units, a 31.5% increase from January of 2011 and also an all-time high for any month.

These numbers have increased significance when you look at the unfortunate production numbers of Asia (down 50.3 percent from 2011!) and other countries that were severely impacted by natural disasters like flooding, earthquakes and tsunamis. That being said, I found it surprising that Japan’s production was up 42.3 percent compared to last January, overcoming incredible challenges caused by the terrible earthquake and tsunami that shook that nation last spring.

The sheer number of units being produced in the United States is a testament to how important American manufacturing jobs and capabilities are to Honda and the world wide market. Conversely, it also shows how important Honda jobs are to the American economy with the jobs they produce and the great products that Americans buy. Even with a down economy, Honda is able to step up its game and kick out quality vehicles at a fast pace in order to keep up with demand.

Despite struggling with natural disasters and other challenges the total units manufactured in January of 2012 compared to January of 2011 was up 6.9 percent. More importantly, Honda has sold 66.5 percent more units in January of 2012 compared to January of 2011! That is astounding considering the challenges the company has faced this past year.

This might be some hard number crunching, but when all is said and done…well done Honda!

Professor Builds Homemade Electric Honda Civic

Professor Builds Homemade Electric Honda Civic

We think Honda should hire Professor Paul Pancella of Western Michigan University to be one its engineers because his passion for efficiency that led him to convert his old 1992 Honda Civic into an electric car is right in line with Honda’s commitment to efficiency and environmentalism.

Pancella’s creation, which he named ‘Hondatron,’ is a technical accomplishment and practical wonderment.

“What that professor did is amazing,” said Tony Lane, Service Manager at Sims Honda in Burlington. “Honda engines and parts are one of a kind, but I guess taking it all out isn’t so hard. But finding a way to make it completely electric without having any car experience is really cool.

“Maybe he should come work for us,” Lane said with a laugh.

By Pancella’s own admission, the technology he used is not new or groundbreaking. He just had an idea and went with it. And while it doesn’t say it in the article, the Honda Civic was the perfect car for his experiment. The Civic’s compact, light-weight body will allow less energy to make it go further.

“And the Civic parts are meant to last,” added Lane. “We’ve seen Civics with 250,000 miles on them and it’s because of the way the car was built. Whether it’s powered by gas or electricity wouldn’t matter much on the wear and tear of the rest of the body, so that professor made a smart choice by picking the Civic because he shouldn’t have to worry about the rest of the car giving out on him (as long as he does regular maintenance) now that he has a new electric engine.”

While a fully electric Honda vehicle isn’t off the production lines yet, Honda has a great line of hybrid vehicles, including Civic and Accord. Stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealerships to get your efficient new, quality pre-owned and/or certified used vehicle today!

Honda Puts Almost Zero Waste in Landfills!

Honda Puts Almost Zero Waste in Landfills!

In this article by the ‘Plastics News’ and ‘Waste Recycling News’ web sites, we were impressed to learn that Honda manufacturing plants in North America put practically nothing in landfills, which only re-emphasizes Honda’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

“In the manufacturing domain, we realized our longstanding goal to achieve virtually zero waste to landfills from manufacturing operations in North America,” Tetsuo Iwamura, chief operating officer, North American Regional Operations, said in the report. “As of April 1, 2011, 10 of 14 plants in North America are operating with absolutely zero waste to landfills, while the remaining four plants are producing a very small amount of landfill waste that accounts for less than one-half of 1 percent of all manufacturing-related waste.”

Even as Honda fans, we were surprised at how little waste these titan manufacturing plants dump in landfills: 95 percent of all waste generated on the assembly lines in North America is either recycled or re-used!

“Honda is really dedicated to creating environmentally friendly cars,” said Keith Hofkamp, General Manager of Sims Honda Dealership in Burlington. “Not only do we make environmentally friendlier vehicles than other companies, but the vehicles are even made in environmentally friendlier ways!”

So now, we have to wonder: with Honda leading the industry in commitment to environmental responsibility, starting with the manufacturing process, how long will it take other companies to step in line and start pulling their weight?

To see how Honda is being environmentally friendly in your local community, stop by Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, or Apple Valley Honda dealerships to day! While you’re there, you might as well test drive some of the great new products or quality pre-owned, certified used vehicles, too!

Honda Predicts Sunny Forecast

Honda Predicts Sunny Forecast

The president of Honda Motor Co. predicted 2012 will be Honda’s best year in last five…and we agree. It makes perfect sense that Honda Motor Co. president, Takanobu Ito said the recovery would be led by sales of the Accord Sedan and Civic compacts in North America when you look at the needs of consumers in the North America and slowly recovering economy of the United States. Local Honda dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda and Sims Honda will contribute to the recovery of Honda and the local economy.

“It will be the year of the complete rebound,” Ito said at the company’s Tokyo headquarters. “Sales in North America will lead the recovery. We’ll introduce a fully revamped Accord in the fall, and that will be a big plus to our sales.”

More and more, Americans need fuel efficient cars like the Civic and mid-size sedans, like the Accord, with great features…and gas mileage. With the economy slowly recovering, Americans seems ready to start purchasing big-ticket items again (just refer to our record-breaking ‘Black Friday’ and solid holiday season), including cars.

The revamped Accord, coming to markets in fall 2013, should lead the way.

“Honda’s targets are definitely aggressive, but the U.S. economy seems like it’s going to recover to a better-than- expected level this year so it’s likely for them to achieve it,” said Mitsushige Akino, who oversees $600 million at Ichiyoshi Investment Management Co. in Tokyo. “They’ve remodeled their best-selling cars, and we can expect strong sales in North America to help them regain market share.”

Here in the northwest, we expect to lead the way in the economic recovery because we have handled the recession with great resilience and businesses are cautiously optimistic that 2012 will be a great year, including for local Honda dealerships like Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda and Sims Honda.

Welcome to America, 2013Fit EV!

Welcome to America, Fit!

The first 2013 Honda Fit EV, Honda’s entirely electric car, was delivered to Torrance, Calif. on Jan. 21 with a ceremony where a key to the Fit EV was presented to Torrance Mayor Frank Scotto by Steve Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda. Consumers in the rest of California and Oregon will be able to get the Honda Fit EV this summer.

“This is an exciting day as we take another important step toward Honda’s comprehensive vision for reducing CO2 emissions while at the same time advancing our relationship with the city of Torrance,” said Steve Center. “Honda has a long history with electric vehicles starting with the introduction of our first battery-electric car, the EV Plus, nearly 15 years ago. With Honda’s extensive experience and the real-world feedback from the city of Torrance, we will be even more prepared for the further customer adoption of electric vehicles.”

Honda continues to be an industry in environmental responsibility with the Honda Fit, first revealed in 2011, that gets 123 city/95 highway-miles per charge and can get a full charge in three hours.

It is refreshing to see a company like Honda team up with different groups and organizations to make the Fit EV and other future electric cars a success. Honda’s Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program will allow real-world feedback from Google, Inc. and Stanford University. That feedback will prove invaluable to Honda and allow Honda to make a great product for the general public.

Honda is also working with the city of Torrance, as it will have to with other municipalities, to install charging stations for the Fit EV. This proves Honda’s dedication to environmentally friendly cars because this is, no doubt, a challenging task for an unproven product (although that will change after the summer of 2012).

“While we’re not exactly sure when the Fit EV will come to the northwest, we are excited for it to arrive,” said Tony Carter, General Manager of the Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “Here the northwest, people are mostly very environmentally conscious, so we know the Fit EV will be well-received and we are excited to provide an affordable product that meets the needs of the community.”

Honda’s commitment to environment performance is well-documented. For example, a Honda vehicle has topped the list of America’s greenest vehicles, from the America Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, for eleven consecutive years. In Additionally, Honda has led the Union of Concerned Scientist rankings of overall vehicle environmental performance since 2000.

If owning an environmentally friendly car is important to you, make your way to Northwest Honda, Sims Honda or Apple Valley Honda dealership for the best value!

Honda CR-V Will Continue to Rule the Welterweight Ring

CR-V Will Continue to Rule the Welterweight Ring
In this New York Times review of the CR-V, it begins by stating the CR-V has been the best-selling car-base compact utility vehicle the last five of six (and probably would have been again if it weren’t for major natural disasters that disrupted production and distribution). And based on the reviewer findings, we can’t help but conclude the CR-V will regain its perch on top despite increasing competition from Ford and Nissan.
Instead of following the popular trend of creating a bigger, heavier, bulkier car, the 2012 CR-V took a “carefully graduated step forward rather than a shoot-for-the-moon upgrade.” The 2012 CR-V is an inch shorter, an inch lower and 50 pounds lighter; its design also makes it sleeker and more aerodynamic giving it one of the best gas mileages for this class at 23 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway.
Despite being slightly smaller, the reviewer finds that the designers of the 2012 CR-V made it roomier and seem bigger than previous models.
“People love the CR-V and they are going to love the 2012 CR-V even more,” said John Clough, Sales Manager at Northwest Honda dealership. “In addition to the roomier design, the seatbacks don’t have to be manually folded; one pull of a lever will automatically pull up the seat cushions and fold down the back seats to give you great cargo space.”
While the reviewer states that the interior looks more luxurious than it feels and actually is, we think that it is a great trade off that keeps the CR-V affordable, ranging from about $23,000 to $31,000. All of these features make it great for families and consumers.
“The CR-V is safe, sleek and easy on your budget,” Clough said. “If you are in the market for compact utility vehicle, you should really head to Northwest Honda, Sims Honda or Apple Valley Honda to test drive the CR-V. You won’t be disappointed.”
If the new CR-V is a little out of your price range, don’t forget that Northwest Honda, Sims Honda and Apple Valley Honda have new, quality pre-owned vehicles and certified used vehicles, including the CR-V.

Super Bowl Honda Ad

Honda Does Ferris Bueller Super Bowl Ad?

Yes Please!

Do you love Super Bowl advertisements as much as we do?

Do you love Honda?

Do you love the move ‘Ferris Buller’s Day Off?’(stupid question).

Then you are going to LOVE this: a short preview of Honda’s Super Bowl advertisement has been revealed…See it HERE

Yes, that’s right. Honda is going to do a commercial where Ferris Bueller, played by the original Bueller, Matthew Broderick (eek!), is all grown up and uses Honda vehicles to escape a day of work. Naturally, this is going to cost Honda a pretty penny, but as one who had not even thought about Super Bowl commercials yet, I am genuinely excited to see what the creative minds of Honda and director Todd Phillips (who directed a small movie called The Hangover) have come up with.

Not mention it will be awesome to see what a 50 year old Bueller is like (yes, Broderick is 50 year old) since the rumor on the street is that the commercial will be very close to the original movie. And, of course, Bueller would be driving a Honda.

Honda Renews Parternship with Carfax for Certified Used Car Program

Honda Renews Parternship with Carfax for Certified Used Car Program

Buying a used car can be intimidating. It can be down right scary. Are you getting a ‘lemon?’ What has this car REALLY been through? Is going to break as soon as you buy it?

Buying a quality pre-owned vehicle through Honda’s Certified Used Car program (available at Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, and Northwest Honda dealerships) can alleviate all your worries! And now, as an important part of the “stringent program guidelines,” Honda announced that it will continue to use Carfax to provide important information for every single one of its used cars…for free.

“For the last seven years, Carfax Reports have been instrumental to the continued success of the Honda Certified Used Cars program,” said Dan Crowe, automobile remarketing manager for American Honda. “The scope and quality of data that Carfax provides for our certification process helps us ensure the integrity of the program as well as the quality of Honda vehicles that become Honda Certified.”

If you have ever been in the market for a used car, plan to be in the market for a quality pre-owned car, bought a used car, had a bad experience with a used car, then you need to know about Honda’s Certified Used Car program. It is no surprise that “Honda Certified Used Cars sales reached an all-time high in 2011, up 12.4% to 228,506 units” because people know that when you get a certified used Honda, you are getting a guarantee that it is a quality pre-owned vehicle and, possibly more importantly, you know what you are ACTUALLY buying, in large part to the partnership with Carfax.

“Pre-owned vehicles that end up being in the Honda Certified Used Car program are first rate,” said Rick Blair, Used Car Manager at Northwest Honda dealership. “We don’t put a car out there that we wouldn’t want to drive home ourselves…or let our kids drive home in. The process that a car has to go through to become certified is really extensive; we hold really high standards, so people know they are getting a really great pre-owned vehicle.”

Vehicles that are part of Honda’s Certified Used Car program are carefully screened and put through a 150-point inspection; every part of the vehicle is meticulously checked and inspected, including:

  • Brakes
  • Engine, exhaust and drive train
  • Steering and suspension
  • Tires and wheels
  • Body condition/paint

Your quality pre-owned Honda is also backed by one of the best warranties in the industry, including Up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the date the vehicle was fırst registered under the Honda New Car Limited Warranty!

If you are in the market for a quality pre-owned car, your first and last stops need to be at Certified Used Car departments of Apple Valley Honda, Northwest Honda, or Sims Honda dealerships! You won’t be disappointed!
