Honda’s Profits Increase 6%, Sales of Accord by 36%

Like any automotive company, Honda’s profits are tied to the quality and sales of its products. Well, I guess you could say that the quality of Hondas and the number of Hondas is at a high because Honda’s profits rose by a net of 6.6 percent last quarter.

Honda posted a net profit of $760.88 million.

Of course, profit all has to do with sales and strong Honda sales were led by the 2013 Honda Accord that jumped 36 percent over the previous month forcing the Toyota Camry to second place.

According to this article, “In the U.S., Honda’s deliveries rose 5.5 percent to 337,651 units in the three  months ended March, according to industry researcher Autodata Corp. Honda saw  its best year in the U.S. in 2007 at 1.55 million vehicles and is aiming to  break that record this year, according to Tetsuo Iwamura, executive vice  president.”

In the next year, Honda expects deliveries to rise by 10 percent led by the redesigned Honda Accord and assisted by the new Honda Fit. Honda’s growth will be global and not just in sales, but also in manufacturing.

“Honda wants to grow rapidly  by focusing on emerging markets and small cars, and the automaker is  expanding capacity globally. It plans a new plant in Thailand that will open in  2015. This year, it will add an extra line at a factory in Malaysia, start  operations at Yorii in Japan and then open a new plant in Mexico in 2014.”

We are encouraged by the growth we see in Honda. After a rough couple years of sales and production because of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, it’s very heartening to hear that Honda is continuing to grow and thrive.

Honda Voluntarily Recalls 46,000 Honda Fit Cars

On April 26 Honda issued a recall for Honda Fit vehicles from the 2012 and 2013 model years, affecting about 46,000 units in Canada and the United States.

According to the AP, “The concerned vehicles may be equipped with a faulty electronic stability control system (ESC) which may be faulty and will result in excessive yaw, or rotation. The excessive yaw rates will consequence in the vehicle’s direction of motion, by causing it to tilt too far prior to the application of the brake via the ESC,” which could result in an accident.

No injuries or accidents have been reported.

Honda dealerships like Northwest Honda, Sims Honda, and Apple Valley Honda will be able to fix the issue in affected vehicles.

“If you own a 2012 or 2013 Honda Fit and are concerned, please do not hesitate to call the dealership,” said Tony Carter, general manager of Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “Of course, any problem will be fixed free of charge.”

Interested parties can also call Honda at 1-800-999-1009 S99.

Drive a Honda, Use the HOV Lane

A new report stated that Honda makes the most cars that can legally drive in California’s HOV lanes with only a driver in the vehicle.

Why? Because Honda makes the most gosh-darn environmentally friendly vehicles.

According to the California Air Resources Board, Honda makes four vehicles that meet its air quality standards to be eligible to use the carpool lane even when there’s only one occupant. The four vehicles are:

  • The Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid. The 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid sedan has a EPA driving range of 570 miles with an EPA rating of 115 MPGe, a standard used to measure the combined efficiency of an electric vehicle.
  • The Honda Civic Natural Gas. The 2012 Civic Natural Gas (CNG) has an EPA of 31 MPG.
  • The Honda Fit EV, which has an EPA rating of 118 MPGe with an EPA driving range of 82 miles.
  • The FCX Clarity, which has a EPA rating of 60 MPEe with an EPA driving range of 240 miles.

This article points out that using the HOV lane in California can shave 30 minutes off your commute where a ten mile drive can often take 30 to 40 minutes. That is DEFINITELY something we can relate to if you’ve ever hit Seattle traffic during rush hour or there is an accident in one of the two through lanes in downtown Seattle. The HOV lane is your friend in the Puget Sound area!

“The average annual five year fuel savings of the Honda Accord Plug-In, Honda Civic CNG and Honda Fit EV is about $7,783.  The fuel savings for the FCX Clarity haven’t been released.”

If you care about the environment, saving money and getting around faster (sounds pretty good right?), then be sure to stop by Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, or Northwest Honda dealerships today. Not all of these vehicles may be available in Washington state yet, but no doubt any of them would make a big difference in your life and your budget.

Driver of Honda Fit Walks Away from Rollover Crash

The driver featured in this articleand video was driving his Honda Fit when it looks like he was driving too fast for conditions and found himself rolling down the hill.

In fact, his Honda Fit rolled over seven times. And he walked away from it. And he caught the whole thing on video.

The article points out that if a person had a choice what car to be in if they knew they were going to be in a rollover crash, most people wouldn’t pick the Honda Fit. Maybe this video will change a few minds and car buyers will realize all Hondas, including the Honda Fit, are some of the safest in the industry.

2013 Honda Fit Wins Two “Best Car for the Money” Awards from U.S. News & World Report

The Honda Fit is one of Honda’s most popular vehicles, quickly gaining on the likes of the Civic and Accord. With two new awards from U.S. News & World Report, the 2013 Honda Fit will likely continue with its upward trend.

U.S. News & World Report awarded the 2013 Honda Fit as “Best Subcompact for the Money” and “Best Hatchback for the Money” beating out other popular models by Toyota, Subaru, and all other major manufacturers.

“The Fit brings truth to the concept that big things can come in small packages,” said Mike Accavitti , vice president of national marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “With an amazingly roomy interior, snappy styling, great driving dynamics and industry-leading Honda quality, Fit proves that small cars can provide value well beyond their size.”

The gas mileage, space, and Honda dependability has made the Honda Fit not just popular with experts and critics, but also with the average buyer.

“Lots of people come to Sims Honda thinking they either want an Accord or a CR-V,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “But they end up driving away in a Honda Fit after they get in and realize it has a lot of space, gets awesome gas mileage and has a very versatile interior. It has almost 91 cubic feet of passenger space and 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats! And it comfortably seats five people…unless you want to fold down the seats flat to utilize that space.”

According to the press release, “…the exclusive 60/40 split rear Magic Seat® offers multiple seating and cargo-carrying configurations. With its one-motion dive-down functionality, it can fold flat into the floor to provide a maximum 57.3 cu-ft. of rear cargo volume. Compared to any other vehicle in the subcompact class, the five-passenger Fit provides the lowest, flattest cargo floor and the most cargo volume. The Fit’s interior thus can easily be converted to tall-object mode or long-object mode based on the shape of the cargo.

Here are some of the other awards earned by the 2013 Honda Fit

  • A “Top Safety Pick” rating by the IIHS
  • A 2013 Residual Value Award from ALG
  • A 2013 Best Resale Value Award from KBB.com
  • Recognized as a “greener choice of 2013″ by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE)
  • A seven-time Car and Driver magazine “10Best Cars” award winner

Stop by Sims Honda, Northwest Honda or Apple Valley Honda dealerships to check out the award-winning (many times over) 2013 Honda Fit. You may think you want an Accord or CR-V, but don’t walk off the lot until you’ve taken the 2013 Honda Fit for a test drive and visualized your family and your stuff in its spacious passenger and cargo space.

Three Hondas in Top Six of Greenest Cars

The Honda Fit, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Honda Insight were listed in the top six of Greencars.org’s ‘greenest’ cars list for 2012.

The Honda Fit placed second, the Honda Civic Hybrid placed fifth, and the Honda Insight placed sixth.

“This isn’t surprising at all,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager of Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “Honda prides itself on developing vehicles that get great gas mileage and are low-emissions. Whether its manufacturing, selling, or after the cars are sold, Honda wants to be low-impact on the environment.”

  • The Honda Fit (electric engine) was just one point short of the number one car. It gets 3.9/3.1 miles/highway per kilowatt hours (instead of mpgs).
  • The Honda Civic Hybrid gets 44 mpg (city and highway.
  • The Honda Insight gets 41/44 city/highway mpg

See the complete list HERE.

The Honda Fit is a hit with critics and consumers alike for its compact nature on the outside, but surprising amount of space on the inside. The Honda Civic was the best-selling car last year, in good part because of its reliable name and gas mileage. The Honda Insight is a relative unknown compared to the Fit and Civic, but obviously one that car-buyers should take a look at, especially if they want a car that’s environmentally friendly and gets fantastic gas mileage.

Hondas Beat Competition in all 3 Head-to-Head Shootouts on Cars.com

Hondas Beat Competition in All 3 Head-to-Head Shootouts on Cars.com

We love Hondas, so it’s no wonder that we write about how much better Hondas are than other cars. But, in an effort to show that it’s not just us who love Hondas, here’s an AWESOME article about how Honda vehicles beat out all other vehicles in three different face-offs: the $16,000 Subcompact shootout (2012 Honda Fit won), the $25,000 Compact SUV shootout (the 2012 Honda CR-V won), and the $26,000 Midsize Sedan shootout (the 2013 Honda Accord won).

Not only did Honda win, but they won each shootout by an average of 26 points. We can’t make this stuff up.

The article provides a great breakdown for the pros and cons of each car tested in each shootout, including the comments of each judge and the real-life test-family. If you are considering by a vehicle in any of these three categories, I HIGHLY recommend you read the article relevant to you because they do a great job with specifics.

Here’s what you need to know from the $16,000 Subcompact shootout:

  • “The verdict: ”The Fit is a triumph of cargo volume, versatility and execution,” Wiesenfelder said, “and its powertrain is a winner. From the first moment, the Fit begged to be driven hard.” Enough said.”
  • All the judges and the test-family raved about the overall roominess of the vehicle that looks much smaller on the outside then it feels on the inside. In fact, the second row seats fold UP so you can still have a flat loading space.
  • It’s fun to drive. More than any of the other cars tested, the Honda Fit handled magnificently on corners, hills, bumps, etc. No need to worry about driving a puny, wimpy
car. Drive one that is fun to drive!
  • It got the second best gas mileage with EPA tested 28/35 city/highway mpg. The judges got an actual gas mileage of 33.4 mpg.
  • See the verdict on each individual car HERE.
  • See the overview of this shootout HERE.

Honda Fit Transforms into Musical Instrument, DJ Table

When we find and read articles about automobile breakthroughs and technology, it usually has to do with safety or gas mileage or something along those lines. Rarely, do we find something as cool as an automobile being used as a musical instrument as is the case with the Honda Fit Twist (only available in Brazil) in this video. You won’t believe it until you watch it.

All the elements used in the song are triggered by different features of the car (my favorite is the one that occurs when the glove compartment opens.

The Honda Fit Twist-turned-DJ-Table campaign is also a contest for different blogs to create the own remixes of the original song (called Overdrive). People can vote for their favorite remix at the blogs.

To see the really creative and entertaining creation of the original song by Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon and read specifics about the campaign and contest, click on the link above.

Fit EV Video

Fit EV Video

The 2013 Honda Fit EV recently came to America and now there is a great video about how Honda is working to gather more information on how to perfect their electric car!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNyFnTAXLGw

The video suggests that Honda selected three distinctly different organizations to be a part of their Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program for different reasons. Google was picked (besides the fact that it’s Google) because of its forward-thinking staff who tend to be more technologically inclined and welcoming of new ideas and products. Google staff who drive the Honda Fit EV will have more technical feedback…and could potentially be more open to purchasing a Honda Fit EV when they come on the market.

Standford University is obviously a more academic setting where research will be done how to decrease the anxiety of drivers of electric cars and increase the potential that they will have a pleasurable experience. The City of Torrance, home to a Honda manufacturing plant, will provide real-world feedback. Employees of the City of Torrance are not necessarily technically trained or looking at the experience from an academic point of view. They just know how it feels, what works, what doesn’t work and more.

We think this three-pronged attack of feedback that Honda has put together for their Electric Vehicle Demonstration program is genius. It’s a great way to get a variety of quality feedback and also to prime the market for purchase before the Honda Fit EV hits the market.

If you are interested in driving and purchasing the Honda Fit EV, contact Northwest Honda, Sims Honda or Apple Valley Honda today! The Fit EV will be available in limited markets starting this summer, so call up one of these great dealerships today.

Real-World Testers Choose Honda Fit as Best Sub-Compact Car – USA Today

Real-World Testers Choose Honda Fit as Best Sub-Compact Car

In a neat little feature for USA Today, a real-world married couple tested seven sub-compact vehicles. Their choice? The Honda Fit (now available at Sims Honda, Northwest Honda and Apple Valley Honda dealerships).

After testing cars like the Toyota Yaris, Kia Rio, and Nissan Versa “they settled on the Honda Fit hatchback as their clear favorite for its power, comfort and visibility.”

While this ‘regular’ couple, Robyn and Erik Rose, noted that they do not particularly like the look of the Honda Fit, they admitted it was a great car and would be their choice over the seemingly ‘cheap’ Nissan Versa and said that if someone gave them a Rio, they would “trade it in for a motorcycle” (ouch).

“Just like this couple noted, the Honda Fit really is a great car,” said Dave Pitcher, sales manager at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “It handles awesome; it’s really fun to drive. It is a really a great choice for individuals and couples who don’t need a bigger vehicle. Just like almost all of Honda’s vehicles, it gets good gas mileage and is a solid, dependable car.”

In fact, this couple said “thought the Honda Fit could do little wrong during their drive.”

“As soon as you sit in it and drive it, you feel at home,” Erik said.

This is a funny little article because this couple’s commentary is very honest and colorful. I love how Robyn (the wife) said that in driving the Ford Fiesta, it seemed like, “They want you to forget that it’s a Ford.” (Again, ouch)

If you are looking for a ‘great’ sub-compact car, head to Sims Honda in Burlington, Northwest Honda in Bellingham or Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee. Maybe you will find yourself feeling “at home” in the Honda Fit, too.
