TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Honda Accord was the best-selling car with individual American car buyers in 2013 and was joined by three other Honda models – the Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey – as retail sales leaders in their respective segments in 2013, according to new-vehicle registration data compiled by Polk, which was recently acquired by IHS. The Accord, built in Marysville, Ohio1, also had the No. 1 produced car in America in 2013.
Cumulatively, the Accord, Civic, CR-V and Odyssey posted retail sales of more than 1.11 million units in 2013, each earning the business of more than 300,000 individual American car buyers. Excluding full-size pickups, only one other model across the entire industry posted retail sales of more than 300,000 units in 2013.
“Our focus on retail sales to individual buyers has a direct correlation to the high resale value of Honda products, which is a key factor in the value proposition for our customers,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of automobile sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We want to thank car buyers for making four Honda vehicles America’s top choices, purchased one car at a time.”
Additional highlights from the Polk /IHS Automotive data included:
- Honda’s 2013 retail sales rose 8.4 percent from year-ago totals to 1,332,576 Honda cars and light trucks
- Individual sales to retail car buyers made up 98.1 percent of all American Honda sales in 2013, compared to an average of 81.7 percent for all other non-luxury vehicles
- Accord retail sales in 2013 rose12.2 percent to 360,089
- In addition to being retail sales leaders, both the Civic and CR-V ranked as the overall best-selling models in their respective segments for the third consecutive year, and both saw retail sales and registrations jump 8.2 percent in 2013
- The Odyssey also captured an impressive 32.2 percent of the U.S. retail registrations for minivans in 2013, selling nearly 25,000 more vehicles than the nearest competitor in the segment
Honda has been named the Most Trusted Brand by Kelley Blue Book for two consecutive years (2012 and 2013) and the Best Value Brand by Automotive Lease Guide for six years in a row (2008 through 2013), in part due to the consistently high resale value of its products.
KBB.com, the online presence of Kelley Blue Book, has named the 2014 Honda CR-V as the best SUV for less than $25,000, giving the award to the CR-V for the second year in row!
“We chose the 2014 Honda CR-V to lead the pack for the second year in a row because of its well-rounded manner and stellar reliability,” says Jack Nerad, KBB’s executive editorial director, in a statement.
According to this article, “It’s not just about being a cheap ride. Nerad says those on the list were chosen for being stylish and offering the latest technology as well. Fuel economy was also a must.”
And consumers are reacting (and loving) the 2014 Honda CR-V.
“The CR-V is better than ever,” said Keith Hofkamp, general manager at Sims Honda dealership in Burlington. “Over the years the CR-V has really built a name for itself as one of the best SUVs on the market and the 2014 Honda CR-V is certainly a culmination of what Honda learned people want in their SUVs. And it’s an entirely affordable vehicle! To be named best SUV by Kelley Blue Book really says something because it s very well respected.”

“The CR-V model lineup carries over for 2014, starting with the remarkably well-equipped CR-V LX with standard one-pull fold-flat rear seats, cruise control, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, air conditioning, rearview camera, 160-watt 4-speaker audio system with Pandora interface (with compatible smartphones) and more.
“The CR-V EX, the most popular trim, adds premium features including a power moonroof, upgraded 6-speaker audio system and 17-inch alloy wheels. Building from there, the EX-L adds a leather-trimmed interior, a 328-watt 7-speaker audio system with XM Radio and much more. We think the 2014 Honda CR-V deserves every award and more.
“The crossover segment is truly one of the most competitive in the industry,” said Tony Carter, general manager at Northwest Honda in Bellingham. “All of these awards and others really put the 2014 Honda CR-V at the top of its class. There are some great crossovers out there, but the 2014 Honda CR-V is the best CR-V and the best crossover.”
Stop by Northwest Honda, Apple Valley Honda, or Sims Honda to find out why critics and consumers have chosen the 2014 Honda CR-V as the best in its class.
This is a great article about the realities of why people really buy crossovers and how the 2014 Honda CR-V exceeds expectations when it comes what people really want from their crossover: to make life easier.
It’s true. People shopping for a crossover aren’t usually really looking for something to haul an oversized boat or looking to go romping in the seriously rugged territory.
No, what people desiring a crossover really want is space, to have seats fold with the simple tug of a lever, great gas mileage, and available all-wheel drive for when the weather gets bad.
“The standout feature in our opinion is the marvelously roomy back seat, which is easily accessed through big back doors that open nearly 90 degrees. That seat also folds with ease. Pull a fabric tether and — viola! — the cushion tumbles, the seat back folds and a flat load floor is created from tailgate to front seats. That same folding ballet can be initiated with a pair of handy pull handles in the cargo bay. Either way, it creates a generous 71 cubic feet of cargo room.”
The Honda CR-V has been the best-selling crossover in the United States for a decade because people, especially families, recognize that it does what we need. It may not be the most stylish or zippiest on the road, but when it comes of functionality and safety (arguably two of the most important things when its transporting your wee ones), the Honda CR-V can’t be beat, including the 2014 Honda CR-V
It is, in fact, “… a marvelous helpmate in simply getting through daily life.”
Stop by Apple Valley Honda, Sims Honda, or Northwest Honda dealerships to take the 2014 Honda CR-V out for a test drive with the kids and see exactly how it can help make your daily life a bit easier.
We have mentioned Honda’s “Start Something Special” campaign and even the commercial about the special role Honda played in the wedding of one lucky couple.
The bride had requested to borrow 3 Honda CR-Vs for the wedding; Honda provided eight. Then flew in family from Ireland for the big day. And Irish step dancers. And the couple’s favorite Irish band. And arranged for $2,000 from Macy’s.
This article (you can watch the commercial at the end of it) stated that the commercial wasn’t moving, that there wasn’t enough tension to make it effective. And that Honda “upstaged” the couple.
We definitely think that is wrong. Sure, it’s not super dramatic and there’s no “tension,” but as we watched it, we were definitely touched and even teared up. A couple’s wedding day is memorable, for sure, but Honda certainly made it more memorable and special.
Take a look at the commercial and tell us what you think. Did it effect you like it did us?
