This is a local story out of Pender County in North Carolina, but the trend is true all across the country: if you own an older Honda Accord or Honda Civic, it’s more likely to me stolen than a if it was a new Honda Accord or Honda Civic. The most stolen are the are 1994 Honda Accord and 1995 Honda Civic.
Of course, the main reason for this is because the security in the newer Hondas is much better than the old ones.
“Number one, the older cars are easier to steal than new ones. There’s hardly any security on those cars and there are so many of them still in existence,” said Frank Scafidi of the NICB. “The older vehicles that are stolen mostly today, those things end up just getting run into the ground or pieced out.”
And of course because people are getting smarter about their cars.
“”(Nationwide) theft numbers are down dramatically from 15 to 20 years ago, and that will only improve as technology improves and people pay attention to what they’re doing,” Scafidi said.
