Toyota is recalling more than 150,000 Tacomas from the 2001 to 2004 model years.
According to this article, “The recall was for a rust problem with the spare tire carrier under the back of the truck bed. A lift plate on the carrier that is used to raise, lower and retain the tire safely under the bed may have rusted seriously enough
to cause an unintended release of the tire to the roadway which might result in an accident to following vehicles.”
The recall involves states with cold winters (like Minnesota); it does not involve Toyota Tacomas sold in Washington State.
Volkwagen is recalling more than 2,000 vehicles. “If the right front seat gets wet, it may impact the occupant control module which will possibly not detect the presence of a child seat being installed. This module disengages the air bag system for this seat when a child seat is detected.”
